my dns sink has only 2gb ram, I run this distro on it --> https://dietpi.com/
32bit distros still do exist but they are slowly dying. it'd be better long term to get a 64bit device - this is the company I chose for my dns sink --> https://www.friendlyelec.com, they're relatively inexpensive.

if you choose a rolling release distro (like Arch) then it's "LTS" forever.
Thx, I'll try this Diet pi thingy.
to be honest I don't reeeealy want to install 32 bit linux distro either but I can't trust my device either...

What's a good DE for me then?
now that is very much one of personal choice, you can choose one that has some of the appearance of older windows or Macs, you can use tools such as conky you modify a desktop, you can add or take away the options are endless , Anduin OS looks like Windows 10/11,
the following will give you an idea of the common ones as they appear out of the box, but you could also look through our post a screenshot of your desktop thread [it huge] but you can see quite a few that have been modified

Is it light? Someone said that my choice are limited since I only have 4gb of RAM
ok i tested it on a 2010 intel T series motherboard and 4 GB ram, OK it's not or ever going to be the fastest but for daily home computing its fast enough

Fellas, I finally able to get my hands on both of the macs!

First step is to try out different linux. By the way, someone say I should install virtual box? Is it the one from Oracle?

Like Win7 is the Cinnamon desktop, Mint comes with it by default. You can also try Debian with Cinnamon desktop which is a lot like Mint only more stable. I run Cinnamon in a 4 GB ram laptop and it runs fine

I'm partial to Mate. It's all I ever used on Linux, so it's all that I can recommend. A lot of people seem to like Xfce.

Not sure what you mean "by default." There's 3 different ISOs, one with Cinnamon, and the others with Mate and Xfce. Of course, the Cinnamon link is above the other two since it's maintained by the same folks as Mint. :)

I see

ok you seem to be getting a bit confused, below is a screenshot of my Mint LMDE7 with Cinnamon DE. ignore the background picture, just see if the layout is what you want

Oh wait, I thought Cinnamon is like a theme pack/GUI pack...
that is my Cinnamon DE, it comes with a range of pictures to use or like me use your own, the raw DE [without background and desktop icons looks like this.
