This is driving me nuts. I downloaded Belena Etcher(latest version) as well as Manjero onto my PC as well as onto a USB stick. It will not work.
I've read that an older version of Etcher would be a better way to go. I went to the download link posted here, and if I click on AppImage, I get an instant "FAILED". No matter what I do, I cannot download any version of Etcher. If I delete the new version of Etcher, I can no longer download it as well. I get the "Failed" error.
If I try to open Manjero is says I do not have permission? If I open it up under ADMIN, I get an instant please load CD disk to burn?
I've never had a problem loading a Linux OS onto a thumb drive. My present OS is Linux Lite.(up to date)
Please help.

Belena Etcher has been problematic for a while now. It's not recommended.

I recommend Ventoy.

You can't beat Ventoy for simplicity. You just copy the ISO to the USB and boot off the USB

Why Linux fails to load/install direct to HDD, common reasons

1] Corrupt download [check SHA sum]
2] bad burn to installation medium [try again] [if you used Rufus then try Balena Etcher or Ventoy]
3] Wind 8.2 and higher quick start/fast boot or secure boot not disabled [after disabling do a full power re-boot not a restart]
4] defective pen-drive/DVD
5] hardware fault,
5A] If old style HDD run integrity check
5B]if SATA SSD check for hidden partition at the beginning of drive [this will stop Grub from loading] and delete it before re-installing Linux
If New M2.NVMe check, your system is NVMe compatible [not all older kit is]

It is not obvious how to download Ventoy? Very strange site. No idea what/which to select?
I ran a Check Disk and the hard drive is OK.
I even tried a diff HD, with Linux Lite OS running, and I get the same "failed" error when trying to download software.

I found another Ventoy link and it works. The direct link provided goes to a strange format site.

So much for that idea. I'm not permitted to download A N Y file or image. But my Windows computers work just fine. No version of Linux will allow me to download and open any file.
I followed instructions for the terminal, and they all fail.

I just found the problem of "failed". I was using a Linux Lite HD from years ago. Furthermore, I found over 3,000 downloads in the download file! D U H !

I got Manjaro to load properly. Thank you for all your advice.
As a Vietnam Vet, computers are not my strong side...Ha!
@Rapidrob :-

Heh. Trust me, amongst us on the Forum, even those members that qualify for "veteran" status - 10 years + - are STILL learning.......every day. These boxes of black magic are a constant, on-going daily project. You never know it all, 'cos there's always new ways of doing things coming along ALL the time.....

Welcome to the modern world, m'friend. :P

amen

@Rapidrob
Linux is an organic being, as one distribution grows old another clone comes along, and the apps/programs also are updated and amended almost on a daily basis, Like @MikeWalsh said we never stop learning
