I'm running around taking care of a thousand things before classes begin on Monday. When I sat down at my desk, a terrifying, robotic AI voice began to rattle off announcements. I didn’t see any new apps open so it couldn’t be the cats. In cold sweat I thought maybe it’s one of the apps. I began closing them frantically. It was Chromium, the nightmare was over. ‘Thank God!’ I thought, ‘I’ll take care of that as soon as I’m done with 500 of the 1,000 I need to get done today.’

My fiercely safeguarded privacy was at once shattered again. I reopened an app. Hot needles pricking my skin, impending doom returned. It wasn’t Chromium. I reopened something else. The voice was messing with my mind, trying to confuse me, trick me and cause me to go mad! ‘What am I going to do?’ I asked myself. I leaned back to consider my options. I felt something in the chair behind me. ‘What is that? Oh, I don’t usually leave it there.’ The high pitched twang persisted as I reached for the keyboard behind me.

What happened? Has singularity reached terminal velocity? Have my efforts to avoid it all been for naught? Until Big Brother can turn up the volume without my consent, the speakers are muted. Hopefully drastic measures won't be necessary, but I will unplug them if I have too!

Please help! It's getting harder and harder to escape technology's vortex of despair!

I don't hear it anymore, but it still shows under 'Sounds' in System Settings.

Do you have AI Companion enabled in Zoom Workplace?
Just a wild guess. I do, but it's never made any sound. Or maybe you recorded a meeting? Beats me.

I sat on my keyboard.
