Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon HP Device Manager Not Seeing Printer / Dependencies Missing SOLVED

it is under Administration then click Add Printer
I added the printer via the ppd file and it worked.
Sadly it's still not working. The printer shows in the HP MGR but it has a red X on the device.

I can print from the CUPS website but the HP Manager isn't responding.
I'm sitting here scratching my head:-

I have to take a break, got a really nasty migraine.
Be back later:-

Looks like it is seen lets now fix missing dependencies -
Code:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
then reboot

I ran that command and it didn't return anything.

Rebooted like you told me to and quit the HP Device Mgr and re-launched it.
There is still an error and I'm not able to do a scan or print.

I have 2 HP printers a photosmart and an envy in Linux the scan dosn't work on either HP, you have to use simple scan [in your menu]

I would suggest you uninstall all printers and the hplip-gui and then reboot and reinstall them all. see if it clears the problem.
I have an hp Envy 500 series that works just fine and scanner works well.

Simple Scan does not show up in the menu at all, sadly:-

I think I'm going to have to try that.

This printer has worked under Slackware, Ubuntu, Mint 19.1, and other Linux distro's for the last 10 years.
I'll try your suggestion and see what happens.

I would agree with kc1di on this - time to dump the old drivers and put in some new ones
Code:
sudo apt remove hplip hplip-data hplip-doc hplip-gui hpijs-ppds \
libsane-hpaio printer-driver-hpcups printer-driver-hpijs
sudo rm -rf /usr/share/hplip/
Code:
sudo apt autoremove
Download the Automatic Installer (.run file) from official link - https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip
open a terminal where you saved the download and run - sh hplip-3.21.10.run

I'll start all over again in a few minutes.
Be back to let you guys know how things went.

Simple Scan does not show up in the menu at all, sadly:-
in mint 20.x It called document scanner instead of simple-scan.

After running the hplip-3.21....run the installer did it's job and now it can not detect the printer.

I went to the page in the message and the page is not found.

Should I go to CUPS and try installing the printer that way?

What is the output of
Code:
hp-check -r
also run HPLIP Toolbox it should open a GUI which will give you the opportunity to install any required plugins - provided hplip-gui is installed

1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Check types:

The HPLIP Toolbox is in the system tray.

I shut down the pc and turned off the printer.
Rebooted and turned the printer on still no dice. I've got the same message as in post # 54.

BTW, I went to the website in the error message for help. The page is not found.

Taking a break for a while--

I see 2 things wrong
1) Current contents of '/var/lib/hp/hplip.state' file: Plugins are not installed. Could not access file: No such file or directory
2) warning: Printer is not HPLIP installed. Printers must use the hp: or hpfax: CUPS backend for HP-Devices

How would I installed the plugins?

I don't understand why the warning is saying that HPLIP is not intalled it's in my system tray.
