Yes.did you restart HP Device Manager ?
I added the printer via the ppd file and it worked.it is under Administration then click Add Printer
sudo dpkg --configure -a
I ran that command and it didn't return anything.Looks like it is seen lets now fix missing dependencies -then rebootCode:sudo dpkg --configure -a
Simple Scan does not show up in the menu at all, sadly:-I have 2 HP printers a photosmart and an envy in Linux the scan dosn't work on either HP, you have to use simple scan [in your menu]
I think I'm going to have to try that.I would suggest you uninstall all printers and the hplip-gui and then reboot and reinstall them all. see if it clears the problem.
I have an hp Envy 500 series that works just fine and scanner works well.
sudo apt remove hplip hplip-data hplip-doc hplip-gui hpijs-ppds \
libsane-hpaio printer-driver-hpcups printer-driver-hpijs
sudo rm -rf /usr/share/hplip/
sudo apt autoremove
in mint 20.x It called document scanner instead of simple-scan.Simple Scan does not show up in the menu at all, sadly:-
Thanks for letting me know:-in mint 20.x It called document scanner instead of simple-scan.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).
Check types:
a. EXTERNALDEP - External Dependencies
b. GENERALDEP - General Dependencies (required both at compile and run time)
c. COMPILEDEP - Compile time Dependencies
d. [All are run-time checks]
