Hi. I have Mint 22.3 fully updated and running great except that occasionally if I leave it for a couple hours or more the screen goes dark and will not turn back on with KB or mouse activity. Also sometimes the screen saver runs all night without going dark but it's the no-display that is the bigger issue. The computer fans are still running when this happens but no CPU activity light flickering on the tower.
Today this happened and I held "Alt+Prnt Scr+ reisub" and this displayed the GRUB startup menu (if I am using the correct terms) and I was able to boot into Mint. <-- I've used this and other KB combos to get out of this after I realized that the computer was still on.

Just now I went to Power Management and set the screen to never sleep but this is not ideal even if this prevents a shut-down. <-- still to be seen

Is there a way to check my system for faults or to correct this issue? Thanks! -BA

I would try setting the power management to lock screen instead of suspend. See if that works for you.

Thanks. "Suspend" is the only option. "Lock Screen" is one of the listed options for when the power button is pressed. Am I missing something? I just set Suspend to Never to see if that is the best option until I get a fix. -BA

Try this:

"Delay before starting Screensaver"...set it as whatever you like

"Lock Settings"......leave them alone.

Then, click on 'Customise' (up the top, to the right) and turn on the two which are green(turned on) in the pic below. You can type a message in 'Away message' if you like. Mine says, G'day Again !
The various font settings are unimportant.

Go to the bottom of that page, and : 'Show media player controls, Show album art, Show info panel & Allow floating clock and album art widgets' should all be turned On. (I used two screenshots to capture the whole window)

(Linux Mint does not play well with suspend and hibernation etc ....depending on the make and model of laptop.....some do, others don't.
My pc is a tower, and definitely does not.)

Thanks Condobloke, I have it exactly as you suggest, including the "G'day Again". Fingers crossed. -BA
