Wow! That was a quick diagnosis!

The WiFi on my laptop was dead. Thought it might have been caused by a Mint update that I applied last night (although WiFi was OK immediately afterwards).

Anyhow, as part of my preparation for my first post on here I tried booting an older version of Linux from a USB stick. WiFi was dead with that version too so I figured I had a hardware fault. Swapped in the WiFi module from another laptop and it’s working OK now and I haven’t even posted this yet.

Welcome to linux.org

That's what we like to see ....self troubleshooting, followed by diagnosis, and then the Fix ! (Which works !)

Well done.

Hello @mrvsensible
Welcome to the Linux.org forum, enjoy.
Sounds like you've fixed the problem. If you choose to buy a new wifi card for that machine I would try to get an intel they are very well supported by the Linux kernel.

welcome to the forums

I run two older HP workstations, and two laptops with Mint 22.3. Both of my workstations have had USB WiFi troubles on and off and it was invariably caused by the WiFi adapter and my Lab/Pit whacking the antenna with her toy bone. My solution for this issue is to keep spare adapters.

The other problem was intermittent connectivity to my HP printer two rooms away. The solution was to move the printer closer to only one room away :)
