Basically, I just put together a new system and my AMDGPU is (I beleive) not loading the proper drivers. Although I am getting a picture with a displayport cable plugged into my 4k monitor. Linux Mint, 21.3 with Cinnamon.

Usually AMD drivers are right there in the kernel?

Also, how do you have negative credits?

Pretty sure they are, but why aren't they loading for me?

If the file is blacklist.conf:

Code:

Here is a collection of thoughts on the issue.

The output on the Sapphire graphics card appears without it's model name and/or number.

Perhaps either of these commands could provide more info:
Code:
lspci -nnk | grep -A3 -i vga
lspci -nnkd ::300

The output in post #1 shows:
A Sapphire driver is N/A, not available
An ASUSTek driver is N/A, not available
The Xorg drivers loaded are: ati and vesa.
The radeon driver has been unloaded.
There's no mention of the amdgpu driver.

The Xorg amdgpu driver is in the package:
xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu
and is usually installed when X is installed.

If that package is not installed, it needs to be installed.

The amdgpu driver depends on firmware, so the latest firmware best be installed.
If it's not installed, it needs to be installed either from the linuxmint repos, such as the linux-firmware package, or from the kernel repo:

According to the linux hardware site, the chip ID for this Sapphire card, (1002:747e) uses the amdgpu driver: https://linux-hardware.org/?id=pci:1002-747e-1da2-d475

To check whether the amdgpu driver is on the system run:
Code:
find /lib/modules -name amdgpu.ko

If it's there and not loading, that's the problem.

It's possible to load a module using the /etc/modules-load.d/ directory. One creates a file such as: amdgpu.conf, with the contents: amdgpu
Then one can reboot and see if it loads. To check its presence, run the lsmod command.

It's not normal however for these graphics modules to be loaded this way. Normally they have their loading info in their software itself, and are loaded if the hardware is detected.

ugh ... This is too much damn work, it should just bloody load. Running lsmod

Code:
dlf@dlf:~$ lsmod
