So, you know how you'll sometimes end up with the “Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock” message? I'm sure you know how annoying it can be, assuming you've ever encountered this situation.

Well, the correct thing to do is actually included in the article - but the article is about doing the incorrect thing.


Yup... Do not follow that advice, but follow it properly if you're going to follow it. Killing the process, or removing the lock, is generally considered a bad idea. That's how you end up with corrupt installations.

I figure if you're going to do the wrong thing you probably ought to do it right.
