This week @Linux.org (2025.E1)

I can't subscribe. I had already subscribed!

I suppose I could unsubscribe and then resubscribe.

That said, you've been eerily productive! I suppose that's a good thing. Though nobody likes it when the boss is hanging around! (I kid! I kid! It's great to see you more often.)

I really like forums stats being shared, looking forward to seeing more every week.
YT channel about forums also makes the forums look like more serious, the idea is great, thanks for making the channel!

I only have access to some rough statistics in the ACP.

That's a daily average of post (blue) and active users (orange) over the past six months.

As you can see, we're on an upswing.

In order to continue this upswing, it'd be beneficial if people made more posts. The new news section will hopefully also increase activity. The hope is that some 'regular users' step up and start sharing news. This will give us more content and, by extension, more active users. It's one more reason why someone might visit the site.

I wanted to do this as soon as the subforum was created but @Rob 'stole' all the news lol, I couldn't find any more news.
/end joke

I usually share news that I'm interested in to discuss when posted, just sharing news but not engaging in discussion or news I think won't get interest in responses is not what I'd normally do.

haha.. I went around collecting a bunch of rss feed addresses for news sites and came up with a script that scrapes them and spits out anything new since it last ran :)

You're absolutely free to (and encouraged to do so) comment in the various news articles -- if you find them interesting. I don't think anyone is expecting everyone to reply to every news story. That'd just be a silly expectation.

But, they're there if you decide you want to comment on any of them.

They're still very much 'conversation' posts. Otherwise, we'd just lock them after posting them.

i like the news idea!

Thanks. The idea took a bit of brainstorming, but I think it's a good start.

The ultimate goal is to get some of our regulars to help find and post news. And, of course, we're hoping that our regulars comment on the articles that interest them. The 'end game', so to speak, would mean finding a regular or two to moderate the sub-forum, but I much prefer the term 'curate'.

It'd be a great way for them to help the site have even more content, get that content aggregated elsewhere, attract additional attention, gain new subscribers, etc... Well, that's the hope.

It also makes the site 'busier'. There's more for people to do, if they want to.

If you don't like seeing and opening all of the news articles, you can just mark them as watched.

Yeah, you'll have to do it multiple times, but it should keep it to a dull roar and isn't too much effort. Even better, skim through them and open those that look interesting. Once you've done that, you can mark the rest of them as having been read and they won't show up in your feed unless there's additional activity.
