excerpt: scammers are sending emails from a legitimate internal Microsoft email address: [email protected]. Microsoft uses this address to send a host of important messages, like two-factor authentication (2FA) codes, as well as other PSAs about user accounts. If you receive an email with this address, and look it up online, you'll find it's real, which might convince you that the email itself is real as well.

what does this have to do with dual booting?

I am glad someone spotted my 'brain fart'....LOL

Title amended.

Thanks @APTI

I don't have Microsoft account. Whatever that scam attempt is, I doubt it would affect me :)

I would always assume that anything purported to be from Microsoft is a scam, whether it's a phone call, email, text message, or anything else. I haven't used any Microsoft product in 20 years or so. But scammers gonna do what scammers do, because it's free to send or call, and one hit in ten thousand is more than enough to make it worthwhile.

i was absolutely forced to abandon outlook. because the keepers decided to force me. to verify my identity. this included knowing what was the sender and subject of "name of popular ham-like product" mails!

it was horrible. i have to go with those other guys which i did so about five times. because they have a serious problem. allowing me into my own account. even though i offered the correct password and i'm sure of it. so far with the latest account. which i need beyond my desire and my powers. i'm afraid of being logged out. so far i've been logged in for almost two years continuously. i hope i don't have to change the mobile device it's on. because it was a hassle to help somebody else. changing phone recently. such that they got trouble trying to remain in a certain social-networking site. which is not discord, r***** or those others "not supposed to be for common folks."

i hope i don't have to use windows ever again. to ever "need" an account.

My 'public' email address is uninvolved (at) outlook (dot) com. I use that address for a lot of things.

I get surprisingly little spam and scam attempts. MSFT is surprisingly good at filtering that out.

So, credit where credit is due, they're not bad at keeping junk from my inbox. I think they might be even better than Gmail.

And if I'm giving credit where it is due, as far as I know, they've never lost my data due to compromised infrastructure. As far as I know, they don't sell my data. They will, like Google, sell it in aggregate. Meaning, 'this person has this history, so it's worth advertising these products to someone in that location, of that gender, and of that age'.

Which, frankly, I begrudgingly accept. Though it does amuse me when I see promotions for stuff I recently purchased (usually at sites like Amazon, as I heavily block ads at most sites). I already bought one. Why the heck would you try to sell me another one?!?

It must be effective, as they've been doing it for years. I'm not sure who it is that's making it effective, but they'll have a whole lot of data backing up their ad infrastructure.

At any rate, always make sure you are on the right site before entering your credentials. If need be, go to the site directly via your address bar to log in. Never trust an email sender further than you can throw them. Always make sure the links are valid.

i received one of those emails - but chose to ignore it since the last time I used a microsoft account was ~10 years ago when I was trialing server 2016
