good evening dear friends,:)

...well - a Raspberry Pi can be used for a whole lot of different sorts of projects - and i think about some nice winter projects.
That said: i have several Raspberry Pi lying around here - so i guess that i would be able to put it to good use.

...what about the creation of a little travel companion:

Did you ever thought - of creating a Raspberry Pi into a photo backup hub: This would mean that i would get a nice little travel companion,
the background: while traveling, I often take a whole lot of photos. And sometimes i wonder how to backup them easily.
That said i have to say that i very often leave the laptop at home; this is the time where the Pi backup server would play a certain (important) role.

Well - what if i would add some more functionality to this little "companion-project": well besides a portable media server i could add also some functionality of a hmmm - a Wi-Fi router that would add some more sense (and functionality) than only a camera backup hub.

  • a. lightweight photo backup server
  • b. a easy to use wifi-router that gives me wlan (hotspot) whereever it is possible

is there a approach - for the project - lets say for the WLAN - router. Did anybody of you do this allready!?
i woluld love to get this done: That would work as a nice travel-companiion and a a lifesaver;)

any tipps and ideas - and reports of what you have done - would be appreciated.
plz tell me about youre experience here. I love to hear from you!

greetings

I have not done it with a PI, but I'd expect Openwrt support for it fully functional. Also, much easier to get going with the functionality you want to add and longtime-support.

It's graphical LUCI interface even has a default shortcut to join a wifi network as upstream server. Using that you can easily join hotspots (e.g. in a hotel) and use your devices to connect to the PIs own SSID.

there's a new version of DietPi out --> https://dietpi.com/docs/releases/v9_17/ (which I'm only aware of because my pihole runs DietPi) - presumably you'd need a cellular hat for the pi so it could have "always on" wifi (or tether it to your phone maybe?). I've got no experience with or recommendations for which cellular hat is the best.

another option that I found when I ran a few queries is https://github.com/RaspAP/raspap-webgui and that may be the route to go as it's a prebuilt distro, though it doesnt appear they've hopped on the Debian 13 bandwagon yet.
