Solved REALLY, REALLY Slow start up. What to do???

Solved issue
Tomorrow morning I will...
...first of all answer this question. Lol.

Sherri, with the two computers/laptops
  • do you still have them set to download mirrors from when you were in Texas? Or did you update them to local mirrors when you made the move to Ohio?
  • are you still in Ohio? you mentioned elsewhere about "east coast".
I am thinking the download speeds can be very much reliant on what download mirrors you are using, and you can get the best results through use of the software sources section accessed through Update Manager.

Open Update manager

Click on Edit.....then Software Sources....password

Single click on the first line .....it will start to show the various mirrors in descending order....fastest at the top....select the fastest and then update the cache....(down at the bottom of that window)

The click on the second line....the same thing will happen....up date cache there as well.

That's it.

Morning stuff is done. Getting ready to install LM 22.1
And then I guess updates...
Then... Well let me finish this stuff first!

@Condobloke

I hope this isn't a serious problem...

This exactly what I did.

  • Clicked on installation files "Install Linux"
  • Went through usual stuff , time zone, password...
  • I opted to install media codex
  • Then I got a message "executing grub install failed
  • 1000000203.jpg

  • I exited out of the installatio and started over. It didn't work.
  • I decided to start over completely
  • I left the boot drive plugged in and restarted my computer
  • I was directed to remove the installion files
  • I got this
1000000204.jpg

  • I See this when I press tab
1000000205.jpg

I cannot get into UEFI
I get the same message no matter what I do with or without a thumb drive.
I also tried to use the old thumb drive with with Linux Mint 21.2. Same results.

I'm getting a lot of hits when I search the internet. So many that it seems this should be in own thread.

I am not at all comfortable going this alone.

I'm going to start a new thread with all the information I posted here. After I post it I will come back here to leave a link to the new thread.

I'll add links I'm finding that address my problem as I find them.
