Tutorial Mythbusting - How Much Unused/Unallocated Space To Allow On My Drive? - Wizards Corner

Read the 5th and 6th linked articles, not at all related to the issues being discussed here, just general information about SSDs that I already knew.

That being said, the 6th one does give some useful tips on how to help maintain your SSD under Linux. :)

So the 3rd linked article is one where the author at least references Linux, with

The big performance hit comes when you're down to just a few gigabytes of free space. At that point, your operating system starts struggling to create temporary files, cache data, or handle virtual memory. Everything feels slow because your computer is constantly shuffling files around trying to make room. Windows, macOS, and Linux all start throwing warnings when you get too close to full capacity. So make sure that you keep an eye out for any warnings like that.

So in summary, there is nothing received so far to contradict what I was saying in the OP.

But thanks, Bob, for giving me a couple of ideas to cover when I write a piece on Swap. I was already going to mention zram and zswap, but swappiness with regard to an SSD is useful.

Cheers
