Recently, elsewhere, we were talking about Balena Etcher, and I undertook to download the latest versions and one of them I used to burn an iso for MakuluLinux Lindoz.
I had previously tried to install that with grml-rescueboot, which I featured in another thread, but it did not work under that method.
With Etcher, it burned fine, and I went to install it on my M2 SSD, on my /dev/sdb .
The partition I had prepared for it was 20 GiB, sandwiched in between a couple of other Linux.
The install went fine, no errors, and I rebooted.
The new Grub Menu came up, but when I booted into it I was presented with the Black Screen of Death, that is, a blinking cursor on a black screen, and it would go no further.
Not to be daunted, I powered down, then rebooted into another Linux (a handy plug for multibooting), and between a combination of
1. GParted and
2. output from command
df -h
I established that the install had taken 20.2 GiB, more than the amount allocated for root /
...close but no cigar and a miss is as good as a mile, lol.
I had a 60 GiB partition on my SATA HDD available, so I installed there, and it booted fine.
This was the first time I have seen an available space issue being associated with the Black Screen of Death.
I later ran a Google search for
system requirements makulu linux
and found the recommended root space was 30 GB. This figure is often indicated, but this is the first time I have had need of following it.
If this is of any assistance to our "Barmy Army" of intrepid, willing, knowledgeable and kindhearted Helpers, asking those questions may fast-track you and the User you are helping, to a solution.
Cheers
