Mint on an old laptop

It worked!
ok if that is the case the go to a terminal and add a new password for your user account.
The command is
Code:
passwd <usr name>
It will ask you to type the password twice.
then use that password for the updates.
good luck.
P.S. It will now ask you to use that password to login also.

no, it is just a Core Duo; has 32 bit processor...

Hmm... Dunno, then. I looked up the stats and that is what was returned. If you have no choice but to use a 32 bit OS, you have no choice. That eliminates quite a few choices - but there are still many choices.

but there are still many choices.
@Radecki for 32 bit Linux see my post #14 but bare in mind your Tosh only came with 1gb ram it will run better if you invest in more, up to a max of 4 gb

My Acer 32bits
Code:
CPU: Dual Core Intel T2050 (-MCP-) speed/min/max: 800/800/1600 MHz Kernel: 5.10.0-16-686-pae i686 Up: 58m
Mem: 801.6/990.1 MiB (81.0%) Storage: 93.16 GiB (10.2% used) Procs: 175
Dual boot: Easy & MX.
Just for fun - I have too many old 64bits, so I really don't need this one.
