Locked SSD

It's out of the tower at the moment.....I will whack it back in, a couple of hours from now.

Stay tuned.

reinstalled it

Code:
brian@brian-desktop:~$ sudo smartctl -a /dev/sda1
smartctl 7.2 2020-12-30 r5155 [x86_64-linux-5.15.0-97-generic] (local build)

Smartctl open device: /dev/sda1 failed: No such device
brian@brian-desktop:~$

Pis from Computer, Disks, and then from GSmartControl

The warning when I start the pc is : Warning: The HDD is locked. & Please Enter HDD master password & The HDD is locked. please enter HDD user Password.
I am asked for password etc 3 or 4 times.....then the pc proceeds to boot (to my main drive....NVMe m2)
Has all this happened because I put the ssd into a HP laptop ??

Do any of you guys know of an app that will RESET this drive?

I have seen AOEMI....windows only....surely Linux has an alternative?

I am told by the people at Samsung that a third party repairer can reset the drive...usually with 100% outcome

my mate said sudo hdparm --security-disable xxxx /dev/sd*
replace asterix with drive letter
he said it dosn't work with all makes of drive

Thanks @Brickwizard, I looked back through my terminal attempts, and have already tried that one, sadly with no success.

Thank your mate for me, please.

By reset do you mean the partition as in AOEMI Partition Manager does - if so you can use Gparted and do the same thing - simply delete the current partition and then create a new one

Thanks @GatorsFan, the drive is not recognised by GParted.....nor by Gnome Disks

This screenshot above shows no partition - hence is says "Unknown"

I'd try wiping the first few MB of the disk with dd and then create a new partition table and partition(s) with gparted.

Use e.g. sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdx bs=1M count=10

where "sdx" you need to replace x with the actual drive letter, from the screenshot it looks like sda

Below is what the terminal looked like

Code:
brian@brian-desktop:~$ sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=1M count=10
[sudo] password for brian:
10+0 records in
10+0 records out
10485760 bytes (10 MB, 10 MiB) copied, 0.00370532 s, 2.8 GB/s
brian@brian-desktop:~$

This what GParted looked like after running the command

below is Disks after
2024-03-06_07-09.png

I attempted to format the ssd in Disks...
2024-03-06_07-14.png

did you open the "Device" menu at the top of Gparted
Yes, I did....but gparted doesn't recognise sda, ....so it immediately defaults to my main nvme drive....
