Linux Mint XFCE

After every clean install be it Cinnamon or XFCE...I always run the Update Manager...Customize the Distro to my liking...Optimize the SSD and turn on the Firewall and most importantly after all this... create an image of my System with Foxclone and Rescuezilla.

I don't worry about battery life...not after 13 years (still have the same battery)...I just plug it into the power point.

In Cinnamon you can right click the downloaded ISO and select Verify...you can't in XFCE as it's not there..but you can use GtkHash which is a better choice.

Bob, it is as I said in #10, it is there in Xfce

The Verify tool is available in all 3 DEs, Bob, it is just that Mint have not given MATE's Caja FM the right-click option that is available to Nemo in Cinnamon and Thunar in Xfce.

In Xfce, it is here

... whereas, in Cinnamon, the option is higher up on the context menu (right-click).

Happy with Linux Mint XFCE, no idea of what I'm missing from Cinnamon.
I'm in the same situation, have been running XFCE exclusively for so long on all workstations I'm not familiar with any of the other current desktop environments. My oldest workstation is a Panasonic Toughbook CF-52 from ~2010. I maxed out the RAM at 4GB and replaced the hard disc with an SSD and new batteries about four years ago and it stays with my go bag for field work. It runs LM 22.1 without issue and I never feel undergunned with it, it runs as fast as I can. The USB ports are 2.0 but it has a DB-9 serial port which is handy sometimes (less than it used to be though).

I plan on using my Mint XFCE laptop for field work as well. Should last all day without charging it.

I'm betting you'll be surprised at the battery life, I was. It might not last all day, but it almost always last long enough for me to do what I need. I think the SSD helps, along with having a physical switch to turn off the wifi hardware which almost never gets used.

See post #18.

Other than an actual WM Xfce is the best DE around.

It's very configurable and low on system resource requirements unlike some DEs.

Panasonic Toughbook CF-52 from ~2010.
Panasonic Toughbook laptops are the best and the only one I've ever considered buying.

Ain't another laptop that will ever compare to the Panasonic Toughbook as for ruggedness.

It doesn't need a case because it's already wearing one. They're not called Toughbooks for nuthin'!

I prefer Xfce desktop environment over most desktop environments simply because of its simple design.

I'm a user who's not into the eye candy scene so simple and functional is my preference.
After I finally took the time to experiment and customize XFCE it has become a favorite of mine over KDE. That said, I am really looking forward to COSMIC once it enters late beta or stable.

I have tried alot of different distros and all were unstable, ( i wont mention which ones) and finally came to linux mint xfce 22.2, it has just worked perfectly. I installed it on my big server, replacing Windows server evaluation, (rearmed 6 times) and everything just works perfect. I have installed kvm and converted all my microsoft hyperv vhdx to qcow2, created a bunch of vm,s and they are all just super fast using less resources, and the server computer is almost noiseless running konstant 4 vm,s
