Thunderbird was denied acces to my proton account
I have no idea what settings you enter but just looking there, it looks like you are trying to connect to 127.0.0.1(localhost) and since there's nothing running on localhost it gives you an error.

By order :

  • it asks me to give my email address
  • it says he found the configuration
  • I give the password
  • It gives an error "server settings not set"

It looks like with Protonmail you need to setup a mail bridge to be able to use it with Thunderbird and it looks like there's no Proton Mail bridge support on Android.

And I found this.
Proton Mail and third-party email apps
Proton Mail does not integrate with third-party email clients on Android. These apps cannot perform the encryption and decryption processes required to keep your messages secure.
So basically the encryption Protonmail provides doesn't have support on Android with Thunderbird. You should then just use their official Android Proton mail app then.

Thank you very much

Still two silly questions :

If I clean memory or cache from proton mail, will I gain space without deleting already received emails ?

Woud a VPN have somehow influence in all this difficulties ?

I'll try you're suggestion

Thanks again

You mean from the app? I'm not 100% sure but I think app "cache memory" is data stored from the app and user info is your settings of the app. So if you wipe the app cache you will probably lose the mail stored on the device but with imap that would sync again.

No because Proton Mail specifically stated on that page that they don't support third party apps with their mail service, as it can't support their encryption process to keep your mail secure.

I checked, and I'm not receiving Proton mail in thunderbird on Android. It's not something I've been concerned about. It does work fine in Debian, using the Proton mail bridge, though. I don't use my phone for email all that often, and I tend to use the Proton app when I do, because that's my main email. I have multiple gmail accounts, but they're mostly just for use with the play store and signing in to some websites. Thunderbird does work well on Android for almost any email provider other than Proton. If you care about privacy, some compromises have to be made with convenience. Any free email provider sells your data, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Moved to General Computing because Android is not Linux.
no no no... android is linux. it is just the absolute worst possible example of it. One the rest of linux people would like to deny. In fact if you could design the worst possible setup for linux, look no further than android.
