Linux and Grief

I'm sorry for your loss, I know how it feels.

There's an old recipe for grief, most known in central Europe, it's called Spritzer, it's made of half white wine and half mineral water, e.g. 1dl wine and 1dl mineral.

There's also "winter" version of it, which is 3/4 wine 1/4 water.

Please don't think I'm not kidding you as I'm using it when ever either grief or anger is big.

Some things help me. Tea's.. Wow, was mom into them in the evenings. I like them every so often, to relax with as she always did. Most are kinna ok... One I really love though. It's a raspberry tea with a lot of flavor! I drank em all up. I need to figure out where she got em. I never had a taste for wine or liquor. Maybe for the best LOL.. Even a beer, I'm like yuk!! I do have this weird craving for just plain whole milk. I always have. I jokingly call it the essence of life! haha. Thank God I'm not lactose intolerant!! I can't stand the alternatives, 2%, coconut milk, and all the others. When I run out of milk, I kinna pannick as that can't be a thing that happens. LOL... Just a glass of milk with ice cubes. Other than that, I do like my cup of coffee in the mornings. Dad was so addicted to pop and cokes. I never got hooked on them. Never buy em. Bottled water with some drops of lemon juice in, is a great thirst quencher for me when I'm hot and sweaty!

On a lighter note...

When caring for parents, Mom use to cut my hair for me every so often. After losing her and dad I just never worried about, and just let the stuff grow. Every so often, if I groom up pretty good, and when out and about, someone will refer to me as Miss or Ma'am totally taking me off guard! I love the reactions I'll get when I respond with a smile and a little bit deeper voice than I already have. Sometimes I'll have to just say... Nope I'm not into all that gender swapping junk going on these days. I'm just a normal guy who quit getting his hair cut is all. I'm not overly macho with a giant ego to defend, so it ends with some laughing and smiles.

I'm a longhair, but I have a beard. That eliminates any confusion.

I used to cut my hair regularly. The cuttings would go to "Locks of Love", an organization that gives wigs to cancer patients.

I've got a plaque somewhere around here for giving more than 3 feet (in total). I donated once after that. Today, I can no longer donate. They do not want gray hairs in their wigs.

I'd have probably donated more, but they don't take damaged hair. I spent years performing and would often dye, spike, or straighten my hair. They don't want any hair that has been damaged. I'm not sure of the current rules. I was last able to donate in 2018. Since then, I've only trimmed my hair. When my hair is wet, it reaches the middle of my back.

sh? man I depicted you completely the opposite

I used to have my picture on my Linux site, but I took it down as a needless waste of space (plus the plugin was acting funny -- and not funny in a good way).

I can't seem to grow one of those bears that reaches down to my chest.

I'm not fan of long hair, never had long hairs but I do like my short Iranian style beard, up to 2cm long, gray in the middle.
Beard longer than 2cm is too much for me, it's easier to maintain and doesn't itch.

I don't want to derail the thread too much. So, I'll simply say that I spent many years where short hair was required, and facial hair was not allowed. Well, you could have facial hair if you somehow got a doctor to sign off on it being a medical necessity. Even then, it had to be pretty tight.

When you were in the field, you could be excused for not shaving -- but that's also when you'd want to shave (much of the time). Your gas mask doesn't work properly if you have facial hair. Plus, depending on your MOS, you were required to present yourself in a standard (and imposing) manner.

For example... Embassy duty was tough in many ways. You had to be squared away at all times, and your uniform needs to be exactly correct. You're not supposed to show any emotions, and the time you spend getting everything right is not considered a part of your duty time. Your hair needed to be uniform at all times. and any faults were spotted and corrected. Repeated problems meant more duty time and/or restrictions.

Then, you are expected to present yourself in a professional way when you're not on embasy grounds. Though you do have some diplomatic immunity, that's only during the course of your duties. Even when you're off-duty and outside the grounds, you're expected to wear appropriate clothing and act accordingly.\

Ah well...

If need be, we can split this off to another thread.

I'm so envious of beard growers! I just can't. Too much native american in me. Dad, although a little burlier than me had trouble too.

My long hair these days isn't to achieve any style persay, but just me missing my mother cutting it. Over 4 years of just letting it go wild. Cousin IT in the Adams Family comes to mind, if I don't break down and chop it off in the near future.

Avie is quite some years ago when I stopped fiddling with Linux to be caregiver for parents.

Sanctuary back room, I often sit of the floor and play this guitar for hours till my fingers start to hurt and cramp up. Sometimes Smokey my crazy cat will start zooming around doing these amazing acrobatic flips trying to distract me. It usually works and we'll go outside where she will show me weird cat stuff in a tree or something which always amuses me.

I'll snap out of my grief sooner or later.
