Updated steam last night, it has new UI and all them' bells, I went to bed shortly after, heard the fans revving just as I was about to dose off. Checked it out this morning, and it's causing random CPU cores to have short spikes while the cpu sits at its' stock speeds of 2.0GHz (Boosted is 3.9GHz).
Further investigation suggests that these spikes are divided EXACTLY between the gnome system monitor process and a random "steam web helper" sub-process. On a proper idle, my CPU utilization is literally non-exitent. A single core is at 1%... and only that when I move the mouse.
A full restart doesn't fix the problem, closing steam fixes the problem. This is damned peculiar. Am I the only one having this?
