Laptop brands that are good for Linux

I will revise my selections. I would go Framework and Tuxedo for Linux laptops.

I'm thinking about replacing my wife's Chromebook with a refurbished laptop (from Amazon or eBay) that I plan on putting a Linux distro on. Are some brands better for Linux than others? I know from experience that Dell and Asus desktops are good for Linux. Does the same hold true for laptops?

First of all, NEVER BUY A CHROMEBOOK. or anything like it.

otherwise I have great success with dell. Not the ones you buy in the store. the precision, optiplex and the rest of the higher end business system. stay away from dimension and latitudes. I also do well with HP laptops. again not the low end crap you see in wal mart. in fact go to walmart and look at what they have, note the models and DO NOT BUY THEM.

This is off-topic, but I'd say that you're generally correct with that statement.

I'm an exception. You can scroll through my comment history and see times when I've said something along the lines of, "I am not qualified to hold an opinion." If I don't have enough information that I understand, I don't have an opinion. If I do have an opinion, it's uninformed and not relevant to the discussion. So, I just don't have an opinion.

This is something as a result of my past. I appreciate formal logic and reason.

I think that it's unfortunate that so many people have opinions about things they don't understand. I'd elaborate, but it'd trend towards the forbidden subjects (religion, politics, etc...).

Chromebook horror is an opinion. They have their place, and are very useful to some people. I own three, and have converted a couple to run Linux. I seldom use them these days, but I don't consider them to be horrors. The ability to run ChromeOS, Linux, and Android seamlessly at the same time can be very convenient, and to some people, priceless. They were for my mother who suffered from dementia but could use one to video chat with family members. If you don't like chromebooks, don't buy one, but bashing anyone who does seems somewhat arrogant.

not sure where I was bashing people. maybe you can point that out to me where I bashed somebody... What I recall was pointing out that chromebooks are low quality disposable things. If I bash something it is the hardware not a person, so please tell me who I bashed and how because I said nothing about the people. Work on your reading comprehension please.

Shouting at the OP, whose wife has a chromebook, to NEVER BUY A CHROMEBOOK, comes across to me as bashing. Sorry if I over-reacted, but that seemed over the top to me.
