Hi everyone,

I’ve set up a LAMP server with a RAID 1 configuration and wanted to get some feedback on my current setup.

Hardware setup:
  • SSD 1: OS
  • SSD 2: Backup
  • HDD 1: Mirror
Everything’s running fine so far, I followed online instructions to get it all up and working.

My questions are:
  1. Since I only have one HDD available right now, can I safely use it in this RAID 1 setup, or should I replace it with another SSD to keep things consistent?
  2. What’s the best way to verify that the RAID is actually fault-tolerant (i.e., crash-proof) and that my lab data would be safe if one drive fails?
Any advice or tips from those who’ve done similar setups would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

HDD for server is not good option, and I wouldn't mix HDD's with SSD's in a RAID setup.
Better have 2 RAID's one HDD and other SSD e.g. one for backup with HDD's and the other one for OS.

Purpose of RAID is to combine multiple disks, it's not a backup solution.
