Joining the linux forces ( again )

He is correct. It is too old. It is no longer supported and will no longer get security updates, leaving it vulnerable to exploitation.
Even if windows 10 was new it was not safe for him .
The way my father uses his pc only the OS and some free programs where official :) , he is roaming the internet on TPB and other questionable torrent sites . I learned my lesson some time ago to just buy what i want , no more creeping software or virusses for me . Don't want to lose all my steam , rockstar , ubisoft , blizzard ,... games .

That made me chuckle. It reminds me of my father, who has been gone for quite a while.

It's sort of my fault. I showed him how to crack WinZip (which was kind of pointless). He soon became a sailor on the high seas. Though he was fairly good about being reasonably safe. Even being safe, he was constantly trashing his OS and doing another clean install. He was also fairly adept at fixing it with his various plundered tools.

When clearing out his stuff, there were thousands of pieces of external storage, going back to the 3.5" floppy disks, all the way to Blu-ray disks. Heck, he had hundreds of Zip Disks.

He'd have been mortified to know it was all for naught. I made sure that almost all of the storage was properly shredded. The only media saved were some disks labeled 'pictures'. They turned out to just contain pictures he liked.
