Now then:-
The Lat booted up fine, and the new drive was immediately seen and works as expected. Apart from needing a slightly firmer push to fully seat the caddy, compared to the optical drive, it's all been very hassle-free.
Since the Lat is on Google's list of 'supported' devices for ChromeOS-Flex, I'll keep an install of this on a permanently plugged-in USB 3.2 SanDisk Ultra 'Fit' thumb drive. ChromeOS-Flex wants an entire drive to itself, and since I've booted it on here from a thumb drive before I shall run it like that. I'm not wasting an entire second internal drive on it, since after 'dd'-ing the .bin file to a drive that drive then can't be used for anything else unless you perform a 'full' install (summat to do with the primary & 'backup' GPT partition tables). I don't see the point, especially since it can see and read from from/write to other installed drives.....I only want the OS itself.
If I have ChromeOS-Flex running on the HP Pavilion desktop rig at the same time, the two will 'sync' in real time anyway.
I'll give a Puppy frugal install a try from the new drive via the caddy this evening. I don't anticipate any real issues.
Mike.
