Me again...

I've just installed Double Commander via MX Package Installer, but when I try to start it nothing happens. It just won't show up.

Installed it is, as MX PI insists:

Searching it in terminal sprouts dubious results, but maybe I simply didn't know how to ask properly:

Code:
owl@Max:~
$ locate doublecmd
/usr/share/icons/Papirus/16x16/apps/doublecmd.svg
/usr/share/icons/Papirus/22x22/apps/doublecmd.svg
/usr/share/icons/Papirus/24x24/apps/doublecmd.svg
/usr/share/icons/Papirus/32x32/apps/doublecmd.svg
/usr/share/icons/Papirus/48x48/apps/doublecmd.svg
/usr/share/icons/Papirus/64x64/apps/doublecmd.svg
/var/lib/swcatalog/icons/debian-bookworm-main/128x128/doublecmd-common_doublecmd.png
/var/lib/swcatalog/icons/debian-bookworm-main/48x48/doublecmd-common_doublecmd.png
/var/lib/swcatalog/icons/debian-bookworm-main/64x64/doublecmd-common_doublecmd.png
owl@Max:~
$ locate double commander
owl@Max:~
$ whereis doublecmd
doublecmd: /usr/bin/doublecmd /usr/lib/doublecmd /usr/share/doublecmd /usr/share/man/man1/doublecmd.1.gz
owl@Max:~
$

It's listed in the "User Installed Packages" list as doublecmd-common twin-panel (commander-style) file manager

So where is it? Why doesn't it show up? Did I forget something?

Do these two terminal commands do anything?

doublecmd /home This will open up your "home" with double commander if it is installed.
doublecmd --version If installed, this will give the version number.

Code:
$ doublecmd /home
Command 'doublecmd' not found, but can be installed with:
sudo apt install doublecmd-common

So what happened when I installed it with MX Package Installer?

And should I install it with the sudo command? Or uninstall the obviously not installed version before, since MX Pakage Installer still thinks it is installed?

Well, I did the sudo apt install doublecmd-common

Code:
owl@Max:~
$ sudo apt install doublecmd-common
[sudo] password for owl:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
doublecmd-common is already the newest version (1.0.11-1mx23+1).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

It didn't change anything, but the "Recent Applications" list actually lists Double Commander as having been used - even though nothing showed up except for the empty desktop.

Curiouser and curiouser...

Code:
owl@Max:~
$ sudo apt install doublecmd-common
[sudo] password for owl:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
doublecmd-common is already the newest version (1.0.11-1mx23+1).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
owl@Max:~
$ doublecmd /home
Command 'doublecmd' not found, but can be installed with:
sudo apt install doublecmd-common
owl@Max:~

Didn't work, and I really thought that might do the trick.

It seems I got the wrong Double Commander, at least that's the only explanation I can cobble together.

Reading this website

I noted the following statement: "For those that are working in the KDE or LXQt desktop environment, doublecmd-qt works best. In case you installed any other desktop environment (Gnome, Mate, XFCE, Cinnamon, etc.) then doublecmd-gtk works best."

I had neither one, I had doublecmd-common. So I gave it a try, uninstalled the existing no-show-Double Commander and installed doublecmd-qt for my KDE.

And looky here, Double Commander showed up just fine!

My, what a finicky nit-picking little bugger!
