I’d like to play some games in Ubuntu but don’t know for safe places to look. The only games I’ve played since I was a teenager, really, has been Mah Jong and Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order. But I’m really enjoying learning Linux and thought I’d add games.

The video is about PikaOS, since it's Debian-based a lot of the stuff should be similar to Linux Mint as in how to install Steam, Heroic, etc.

in addition to Steam/GOG, there's also your distro's app software collection - App Center/Discover/etc. I'm rather trash at it but a good game from there is Beyond All Reason (example -->

I forgot that I had changed to Ubuntu recently.
Ubuntu uses Snaps by default, you may run into some performance because Steam as a Snap you will run into some sand-boxing issues but you can try and found out for yourselfI forgot that I had changed to Ubuntu recently.

I sank thousands upon thousands of hours into strategy and like minded games, so many hours that I dream about playing strategies.
Currently playing Against the Storm and Master of Magic.
Just install Lutris, it lets you connect to your store accounts like steam or epic if you have them, download and play, no special setup required.
Have your GPU driver up to date and that's it.

There are a few free and open source games out there. I installed a couple but haven't got around to playing them yet. 0AD and Xonitic. 0AD is a historic RTS war game kinda like Age of Empires and Xonotic looks similar to Unreal Tournament.

You mustn't mind trawling the quieter corners of the web; there's some real gems out there, which are sometimes so well-hidden it's a wonder anyone can find 'em.
Me, I have precisely zero time for the nightmare of the AAA+ flagship titles.....with all their control, ways of constantly getting you to part with your hard-earnt dosh, and the never-ending comedy routine of ceaselessly 'patching' all the broken stuff AFTER they've been released (and thus supposedly 'complete').
I've just literally - a few minutes ago - finished putting together a 'portable' build of the original 1996 release of Quake for the 'Puppy' community (complete with 7 complete 'mods' for the base game). I DO like shoot-em-ups.....and Xonotic, along with its parent, Nexuiz, are firm favourites of mine. You'll find your players, with all the bunny-hopping & stuff that goes on, spend more of their time in the air than they do on 'terra firma'!
Great fun, though, for all that.
