How to upgrade from Debian 13 to 14?

I would appreciate some advice on how to upgrade my Debian 13.6 installation to Debian 14.

Debian is fully up-to-date.

I just launched Foxclone via Ventoy, and the relevant partitions are now being copied to an external 5gb USB HD.

So once that is finished, I'll be ready to upgrade. What's the best way to do that? TIA.

I'll be darned if I could find an answer, either here or in two different search engines. I suppose I could do an AI search.

So help me, I know I read —somewhere— that Forky (14) is ready. But the (out of date? Retracted?) Debian Wiki says nothing. I'm confused.

There is no Debian 14. It will be ready when it's ready. Trixie (13) is still the latest stable version. Forky is Testing, and will be until it's ready, and that is expected to be in about a year, summer of 2027. If you want to upgrade now, you can just change sources file from Trixie to Forky and update/upgrade to Testing. I would not recommend doing that now.

Personally I never do an upgrade - I always reformat my drive and install the new operating system less headaches that way

Debian 14 won't be out in stable form until sometime in mid 2027 or thereabouts

Perhaps you did read about "debian 14"

Whilst it's true that there is no debian 14 release, in common debian parlance however, "debian 14" is understood to be the current development branch named "forky".

The canonical information on debian is from the debian websites. In the case of upgrading, it's the release notes of the respective version that holds the information a user can reference, in very meticulous detail. In the case of the latest release, trixie, the release notes can be accessed from this page: https://www.debian.org/releases/trixie/releasenotes.

Since "debian 14", or forky, is not a release, but rather a development branch of debian, there are no release notes for it. When forky is developed into the next stable release it will have the relevant specific accompanying release notes.

Debian has indeed prepared for release notes for debian 14 by creating the relevant page here: https://www.debian.org/releases/testing/releasenotes, but when one looks for the actual release notes for debian 14 (testing branch), by following a link to "Release Notes", that link leads to a website informing the reader that such release notes don't exist:
