How to create persistent live bootable?

Have tested many light weight Linux OSs for my old hardware. The only one that runs on my old hardware is LXLE. But, it can not be installed on my hard disk.
Am thinking to create a persistent live bootable and use it without installing on a hard disk.
Don't know how to create a persistent live bootable. Please help.

1. What computer OS do you have access to, to download the necessary software? Windows? If so which version?

2. Have tested many light weight Linux OSs for my old hardware

   Maybe you can give us a list of those tried, so we do not duplicate with suggestions?
