Hey everyone!

I’ve been using Linux on and off for quite some time now but really getting into it.

I just wanted to see if there were any pointers on how I could get into Linux Sys admin or cyber security as a career? I currently work in retail but my passion for Linux is huge now, so a career change is needed! Also playing around in the terminal is like a playground for me haha.

I’ve seen so many courses out there and it’s quite overwhelming truth be told!

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to meeting some of you!

Thanks a lot :)

Hello @MarkyBoy
Welcome to the Linux.org forum, enjoy!
It your looking for a career in Linux Admin you should become familiar with Fedora/redhat or OpenSuse. Even Ubuntu to a certain extent. Start small and learn all you can about Linux - you may want to pursue certification at some point also. This page though simple is a good place to start.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated! I use Ubuntu primarily and know the basics - trying to play around with other distros in a virtual machine but that’s a separate issue. I’ll get there.

This is a good starting point for me and a book would certainly be a welcome addition.

Let’s go!

Welcome to the Forums!
I'm sorry that I don't have much to put in for learning, as I am mostly a beginner on this side myself,( Do know a little, but nowhere near most people here),
But still, this is a very good place for tinkering, fixing and learning linux.
Enjoy!

Some resources here:

Linux Administration

The Debian Administrator's Handbook

I agree with our member @kc1di Fedora is a great start. I had success running it for 3 or 4 years. The documentation is very good.
Cheers:)
