Solved Grub - Modifying OS sequence, Deleting/Removing entries

Solved issue
With the Linux grub, it is always the last OS you installed has priority boot

are we there yet ??

Yes Brian. Just finished. Oi Oi Oi All good now.

Thank you and thanks to everyone for excellent advice, suggestions and patience with my stumbling around. Despite a little frustration at times I greatly value my learning about this whole Grub thing. Plus I found it to be great fun. This is exactly how one learns about Linux.

So in brief...

I Nuked my 500gb SSD and Nuked Debian and the Debian leftovers in my 2tb Seagate data, etc drive.
I clean installed Ubuntu first then Mint, fiddled a bit in boot via nano just to show boot menu and increase its font size. Both installed no probs and they sorted out Grub between them. I always run any of my operating systems in minimalist mode. Just installing and using what I need and the basic apps.

As for Debian...I believe that it's a good OS and in the end I had everything running well. Just a caution for other installers. In my case Debian felt the bigger seagate 2tb to be more comfortable during the install and operating. I directed it to be installed next to Mint and Ubuntu but It rudely pushed apart a couple of my Seagate partitions, resized them for it's own comfort then progressed to install itself a bit in my 500gb drive and the rest in the larger 2tb drive. How rude!. This caused all sorts of problems, not for actually booting and operating all three OSs but when it came to any rearranging or deleting of an OS and Grub issues. Oh well, at least I can say that it was a useful learning experience.

Thanks again all. Much appreciated.
Cheers John

Probably a bit late to suggest this now....but.....if there is a next time, unmount/turn off/detach the 2TB while you do the install......so Debian does not have the option to be 'rude'

Yes. It's always good practice to do and usually I do but laptops are a pain to get into. My PC is easy because I have all my drives exposed.
Today I will finalise any downloads and final setups for my OSs. It's mostly done now then it's on to Backups, images and cloning.
Cheers
John

As an FYI, on the lappie, you can, from the Live environment, issue

Code:
sudo umount /dev/sda

before you start the Installer, and that should neutralise the ability of a "cheeky" distro to spread its tentacles across two drives.

Well done.
