Solved Grub Bootloader Missing

Solved issue
That being said, MX is a bit like a Swiss Army Knife for its tools, so I will take a look on my tomorrow, with my MX'es and possibilities.
Good idea. I checked MX Tools and there is an option for boot repair. There is something also for Chroot but I don't think that is needed for OP since it looks like the boot repair has the options to reinstall the GRUB bootloader.

None Taken, but I am willing to learn. I found this article: https://lets-rebuild.com/how-to-get-the-linux-bootloader-back-after.html. Don't know which avenue would be best..using chroot manually or automatic solution. I would appreciate input and I would have many questions and in all likely-hood need to be led by the hand. As I stated, I'm willing to try and learn with the help of this forum. Thanks to all thus far.

As I was typing the above I received a response from and possible solution from MzQ1NjExN2. Which of the "BootRepair options should I choose?

Have to leave for a bit will return soon

Why do all that when you can just load a live USB of MX Linux and reinstall the GRUB bootloader using "MX Boot Repair". I haven't had to use it myself but it seems like this would solve your problem with a few clicks.

I had another thought why update-grub may not be working , and that is if the Hdd is not mounting .. check in disk manager

How do I navigate checking Hdd in MX? I tried MX Boot Repair and entered my password and it failed! I tried this several times

If your using the live USB of MX I believe the password is demo if I remember correctly.

okay, it worked. I had the options as to where to install: MBR ROOT ESP. I chose Root and it said it successfully installed. What should I try from here. Do I exit MX live and remove DVD and restart to see if Windows will give me the option to boot into the partition allocated for MX?

Since I've never used it I'm not sure.

Here is the official documentation:

Looks like you can just restart it. If it doesn't work just do it again and pick one of the other options. As per the link above ESP is for UEFI and MBR is for BIOS (legacy). Not sure which one your machine uses.

This is an older machine that came with Windows 7 installed and upgraded to Windows 10. The upgrade may have changed BIOS? I checked diskpart and it says GPT

Then it should be legacy.

However, you picked root which looks like a third option. Maybe that will work as well.

Actually correction might be UEFI. I'm not sure maybe someone else can assist with that question.

IT WORKED!!!! I restarted and Windows gave me a momentary chance to boot into MX. Thank you, Thank you Thank you.
Your assistance and those of others has confirmed my choice of Linux.org as my Forum. And it also confirms why I will try to learn in using Linux. FYI MBR was the correct choice.

Wonderful. Those MX tools are amazing and the real thanks should go to wizardfromoz for bringing it up.

Don't take my hat off, it's what holds my hair in place.

Glad for your success.

I'll mark this thread as solved.
