I am looking at moving my son (who has autism) to garuda linux gaming. I NEED space engine on steam to work on his system through linux.

Has anyone successfully gotten Space Engine to work on Garuda? I am liking Garuda because of the visuals of the system, and the many included games and emulators for him.

thanks in advance on this one. Once I confirm we are leaving corporate computing for good i.e. Microsoft.

the following will give you guidance for space engine on steam and Linux.

Thanks @Brickwizard. Do you think using Steam OS on his system would be a better choice? I have garuda on an old system here and while it looks AWESOME, I don't think it will be suitable for my son. Also, can I get emulation on other distros as well? Are there any sites etc where I can go to get old games for his system?

if ancient [but stable] games, you could always look in the repository for gnome games [its a collection of board and card games] all old favourites but its free and if you get into it it can be addictive

depends on the spec of his machine, you need a fairly decent CPU and a reasonably good GPU
post the full details and lets see.

He has the MSI Cyborg 12U with the 12th gen i5, 8gb of ram (for now) and the 2070 gpu. Should do it. I am going to be upgrading the SSD and Ram very soon so he can load a bunch of games without issue on it.

I am not a gamer myself, so I think I will put out a call to someone I know is..

@f33dm3bits hi, can you please advise the OP on Linux gaming on his MSI

Thanks a million. He's not hardcore, He loves space engine and a few old nintendo games.

This Space Engine game?

If so the gpu is good. The recommended amount of ram for the game is 8G, I would actually upgrade to 16G if you can since 16G seems to be the modern standard for gaming now. Playing old Nintendo games shouldn't be an issue even with 8G of ram. Which exact cpu, it probably will be fine but just want to check the specs for the space game?

I am upgrading his system to 64gb of ram a 4tb ssd with high read and write speeds. i will get the exact cpu tomorrow and let you know. Oh, yes that space engine game ha ha.
