I use an extension that unloads unused tabs (keeping certain tabs resident in memory) and it's amazing.

The one I use is called Auto Tab Discard. The results are awesome.

Most likely article is directed at people with a small amount or RAM...if you have 8...16 or 32GB of RAM it's not a problem.

I have 16GB of RAM and using 2GB now with Brave. I tested Google Chrome...Firefox...Slimjet and Brave and RAM usage was about the same with this site...also have Auto Tab Discard too.

Even with gobs of RAM, the extension is still useful for people like me. I've got about 250 tabs open across three browsers. There's no reason for many of them to be resident in memory, as I use open tabs instead of bookmarks (though I use bookmarks for things I will seldom want to revisit).

My browsers alone can eat 16 gb of RAM. Add a few VMs and things get pretty iffy.
