Hi all,
My pc with plasma wayland desktop is connected to an external monitor. Whenever, I login to my pc, the connection to the external monitor is mirrored, I tried to configure manually (display configuration) to extended mode, but then after I log out, it return back to the mirrored one. Do you have any idea if I can configure this with script to that it will be permanent?

Thank you for your support.

It sounds like the configuration that you manually performed didn't stick.

Is this the location your going to for your config display file?
~/.local/share/kscreen/

Could you give details as to what you mean by the external monitor is mirrored?

Our member @kc1di is good with KDE perhaps he can elaborate here and assist you.

That is right, the manual configuration does not stick. I have not done any configuration in script. "External monitor is mirrored", I mean, what in the laptop displayed is also displayed in the external monitor. For example when I move the cursor in the laptop its movement is also visible in the external monitor.

I use gnome and it is just a button press in the settings to go mirror or join (extended). it stays stable and never had an issue. So yeah it must be a KDE thing. gnome is keeping it straight for me and I use it for a point of sale system for a customer facing screen to show them what was just scanned and totals for the bill. I am assuming you are using KDE? What flavor of Linux is it?

Did you click the Apply button after you made the edits? I've never had a problem with that, I'll bet it's something simple like that.

If that doesn't fix it, I can send you two screenshots (for each monitor) of my Display Configuration settings.

Agreed, it's something simple.
OP shouldn't need to create a script.

Plasma is now version 6 right?

Very possibly, but my Manjaro isn't up-to-date. (Holding off until the bug count drops). My KDE is 5-something.

Got it.
From the reading I did OP just needs to right click on the desktop and go to the display config.
Let's see what @kc1di says.

When my plasma kde DE wasn't right he helped me.

I Afraid I don't use and external monitor here so can't be of much help with this one. sorry. But I agree It should be a simple setting and you should not need a script to execute it.

I couldn't see an attatchment.

Go to your System Settings Interface
  1. Connect the monitor: to your computer.
  • Open System Settings: Right-click your desktop and select "Display Settings" or search for "Display Configuration" in the menu.

  • Adjust Display Settings: In the "Display Configuration" window, you will see a visual representation of your connected monitors.

  • Enable Monitor: Ensure the second monitor is enabled.
  • Position Monitors: Drag the numbered boxes to arrange the physical layout of your monitors.
  • Set Primary Monitor: Select the monitor you want to be your main display and check the box that says "Make this my main display".

  • Resolution and Scaling: Adjust the resolution, refresh rate, and display scaling for each monitor as needed.

  • Apply Changes: Click the "Apply" or "Save" button to apply your new settings.

Thank you @Alexzee, I tried many times what you mentioned. One thing I notice while during this is that the name of the device (external monitor) is not visible on the screen drag drop. Even if I selected the monitor, it shows the name of the built in screen ( the laptop). Please have a look on the screen shots attached.

I would love to switch to xfce4 but the problem is even though it is connected and the cursor also is also seen in the external monitor, it is still dark. What would be the problem with xfce4?

You're welcome.
Sorry for the delay. I'm tending to a new installation that didn't go well.

I see the first monitor shows as a built in screen and the second shows as a Dell U2719D.
It looks like the laptop monitor is being seen yet not the Dell monitor.

Take a look in your Xorg.log file.
Go to /var/log and find the Xorg.o.log and tell me if you see both of your monitors listed.

For example mine monitor is a Gibabyte brand and it shows up as GBT.
Code:
[ 17.202] (II) AMDGPU(0): EDID vendor "GBT", prod id 10011

Code:
 7.900] (II) AMDGPU(0): Manufacturer: GBT Model: 271b Serial#:

With XFCE you may need other pkgs or libs as the XFCE DE is light.

Alex, on
Take a look in your Xorg.log file....

OP is using Wayland.

I am wondering if he has the usual choice with KDE at login to choose xorg (in session box near top, usually) and see if it has the same problem.

Cheers

Thanks Chris!
With my KDE in Slackware there is a choose at login to choose Plasma X11 / Plasma full Wayland Or> XFCE.

teklehaimanot,
Could you check what your options are on your KDE login screen?

On the KDE desktop login you should have options on the page to switch from Wayland to X11.
