Hi everyone, I'm glad to be here. Lately, I’ve been working on an old MacBook Pro, which, thanks to your developers, runs Debian 13, and I’m trying to get the most out of it in terms of both hardware and software. I’ve also started a blog (https://linuxverse.ddns.net/) where I’d like to share my experiences, and I’m curious to hear your opinions and ideas. The site is currently under construction and may not always be available. Thanks for visiting and support.

Awesome page! Since I assume you're not soooo long into linux and have skills, now would be the perfect time to create a Wiki, documenting your steps. So you can reproduce your steps later and share them with others. Just an Idea :)

Welcome to the bunch!

You'll like it here! I also run a Mac as well (M1-Asahi)
Glad to see these old Macs are being kept running /w Linux!

Welcome in! Very handsomely designed web site! My own is just a Wordpress.com site where they did all the work for me and I just chose from among preconfigured templates.

Thanks for your reply. I'm curious to know which specific computer model and Linux distribution you're using, and how your experience compares to the original macOS. Mine has almost completely taken on the look and feel of macOS, both in appearance and functionality.

My 'Mac is a 2021 16' MBP with Fedora-Asahi Linux 44. At Present, It runs KDE Plasma with a sort-of "Cobbled together" version of Mac/Windows/Linux GUI-wise.
Arch round theme, With a set up of a "Poor Man's Conky" (as Asahi is Wayland-Only) in the top-left and System tray on top right.
Dock is similar, but has a start menu at the far left.
Having some coffee and sharing lunch in spirit!

Thank you for the details. It's very nice, and KDE would have been the other option if I hadn't been able to customize GNOME enough.

I've updated my project page which showcases my "Voice Assistant & Interactive Engine" application, designed specifically for desktop Linux users. I tested the program on a Debian 13 Gnome system, but I’ll create versions for other systems as needed. The software isn’t available to the public yet, but a few beta testers are welcome to join me.

Its ready now. I've collected and shared all my notes with the important information and other ideas after installation you should do with the same machine.

this looks awesome

@hgabor84 :-

I echo t'others. Nicely done!

And, umm.....whilst I agree with you about package managers in general, as a gamer you will, I'm sure, agree with me that it's a somewhat 'specialist' field.....which frequently DOES entail digging-around in often obscure places on the web in order to locate what you need.

Such is life... Nothing's perfect.

Lololol!!

Welcome to Linux.org.

"which frequently DOES entail digging-around in often obscure places on the web in order to locate what you need." - Agree, but its a special "built in puzzle game" in all Linux. ;)

@hgabor84 :-

Let me pick your brains, while I think about it.

Will this modern Commodore Vision OS actually run at all on a standard x86_64 PC.....or is it designed specifically for this AMD chipset they're using in the modern re-builds?

The Commodore Forum post on installation does NOT make this at all clear. It says you can run it from a flashdrive or SD card.....but then proceeds to thoroughly confuse the issue.

I don't really want to download 9 GB + of OS that I then can't do anything with. My own C64 "went south" at least 35 years ago!

As I couldn't find anything with specialized mention about the hardware requirements are the AMD chipset but found "Supported platforms x86-64" everywhere and this is "just" like any other normal Linux distribution "Commodore OS Vision is a 64-bit Linux distribution which was originally based on Linux Mint and is now an unofficial spin of MX Linux." so I think you should be fine with your download to your PC with the requirements of Linux Mint and MX Linux. Good luck! :)
