Quick question: Is there a video player the lets you vary the playback speed; play it faster or slower like some YouTube videos? I love VLC but it doesnt seem to offer that option.

@IbChristian :-

VLC certainly does. Look under the 'Playback' menu.....the 'Speed' option is greyed-out unless you're actually playing something.

You can also customise the GUI to add lots of different option "buttons" to the control bar:-

As seen above, I've added the GUI speed controls to the right-hand side of my VLC's lower control bar (along with the 'Snapshot' button). You can add these via Tools -> Customise interface...

The entire process is drag'n'drop. Don't forget to add appropriate spacers, etc, to make things "sit" correctly.

Most buttons will let you add a 'large' version if you want to make a particular option more prominent.

OK, I found the window, how do you install the toolbars? I don't see an option.

@IbChristian :-

Like I said.....literally, drag'n'drop.

Left-click on the item you want a button for in the list in the lower half of that window.....and HOLD it. Move it to the image of the control bar; as you move it across the existing buttons, you'll see a small vertical light grey bar moving with your cursor. This shows where the item will drop if you release the button at that moment.

When the light grey vertical bar is where you want the button to be, release the left-click.

(This is more for GUI nuts like me, 'cos I'm quite particular about how my apps look. That's what a life-time of graphic design does for you!!)

In the blog article @Condobloke has linked you to above, the trick with the status bar, then clicking on the "1.00x" to get a slider sounds like it's exactly what you need. That's a new one on me, and is not something I was aware of until just now.

Thanks, Brian!

It IS typical of 'mature' Linux apps, however.....having at least half-a-dozen different ways to achieve the same outcome. Takes a bit of getting used to, but we LIKE having options...

(shrug...)
