Hi ~~ AmethystAngel here. I'm new to Linux {Zorin OS 18} and don't even know where to begin searching in the forum. I've watched soooooo many videos on YT and, as a result, was able to put Z on my old Win 10 laptop. :D Now I'm reviewing a dual-boot installation or virtual machine with Z on my Win 11 laptop. QUESTION ~~ Can someone be so kind as to direct me to tutorials that have details on the various open-source apps for fonts (I love the Edwardian Script in MS because I do calligraphy) and where to find info for using desktop apps that aren't compatible with Linux. I use LOGOS Bible software on my Win desktop. That's the only reason I want to dual boot, so I can have access to that.

Thanks.

PS ~~ I'm a huge YTber, so video links are great, too. No TT or IG or X

Welcome to the forums!
As for programs,
You might be able to run this in WINE, a compatibility layer for Win on linux. You'd have to check on the website to see if it has been supported (Or if it even works right- It can be a little unstable in some cases)

Otherwise- you usually can find substitutes on the Software center. (Ex- LibreOffice for A MS office Replacement)
I have not fiddled around with fonts that much, but I do know some can be downloaded from the Center as well.
I just have no idea on how to incorporate them, however :(

Anyways,

Welcome aboard!

PS- Please Keep Backups often. Timeshift is the usual Recommended program for backups.
It'll save you one day if things go sour.

:)

Thanks. b~~

Thanks ~~ I've heard about WINE but wasn't sure. I also realized there is a whole website at Zorin.com.

Hi, welcome to the Forum, there's software for Bible studying. Search in your application manager and try some. There's plenty available

Wow. Thanks. However, I've paid a lot for all the resources it offers. But this is good to know. ;)

Welcome! Good to have you here!

This may be worth looking at, as it sounds like you could have it running through wine with this project.
P.S Do know that it's against the rules to be discussing relgion, so as long as it's about discussing software it's all good.

I do a little calligraphy too! Many times though I have to mix fonts for things like certificates and awards and that sort of thing. I searched using the terms "medieval" and "gothic" and found two or three that might fit the bill for you. I'm not familiar with ZorinOS other than knowing it's Ubuntu-based, so it's likely easy to find in whatever software or "package manager" you have in ZorinOS.

Sometimes it takes a while to fully escape the MS ecosystem (I'm pretty sure there's a large staff of people at MS whose job it is to make sure that's so), but it can be done.

Sadly, My school is a MS School (Drat..) But thankfully they are chill with me using Linux and mOS. :)

And the funny thing- Sometimes Linux works better with the Audio bits!

Mine too. Professors want papers "in Microsoft format (their words)." They can't even say what "Microsoft format" is. But with LibreOffice I can use whatever format they want pretty much. I asked if I could turn in my work as pdf files and they said that's okay. Who knew Microsoft had such a grip on schools anyway? Locked into a single vendor and spending a bunch of money needlessly. Probably kickbacks to administrators from MS, who knows.

This may help, where fonts are concerned....no guarantees but well worth a look

The guy writing it, is quite the expert. Searching for his user name online could be beneficial.

Also, a search in DuckDuckGo, using 'are there any edwardian fonts on linux' returns a multitude of answers.
