I trying to insert the thin space unicode character (U+2009) in a Pluma file but the space ends up being the same width as a regular space. Even in a browser it barely appears to work, as seen below. In Pluma, there's no difference at all, even with hair space (U+200A). Any ideas?

Pluma isn't really a full blown word processor, it's more a "notepad". It doesn't have full font rendering capabilities
like LibreOffice.

Hmm... Wikipedia says that it's UTF-8. which may interest you. It supports a subset of characters and was later mostly supplanted by UTF-16.

So if I had a text editor that is UTF-16 you're saying it would work?

It should. I imagine that the terminal itself must also be capable of displaying the characters. This isn't something I've dug into, outside of ensuring compliance for some websites.
