If you’re a Linux beginner...there’s one important thing you need to know..how to run the checksum.
The checksum is a line of numbers and letters you run to make sure the ISO you download hasn’t been tampered with. There are three ways to check this…Mint Cinnamon Verify tool...GtKHash and the Terminal.
Linux Mint Cinnamon has a checksum Verify tool...right click the ISO and click Verify...wait till it calculates...then click Verify.
The other flavours of Mint don’t have the Verify tool...so we use GtKHash which can be installed from the Software Manager in both Cinnamon and Mate.
With GtKHash we need to download the checksum list from the Linux Mint site…
Open GtKHash...select your ISO...mine is Mate and copy the correct checksum and paste it in and click Hash...you’ll see this.
Now click Hash and you'll see this...all is good.
Using the Terminal...in the Terminal go to the Downloads folder...type...sha256sum...and copy the name of the IOS as shown and hit Enter.
You’ll see a list of letters and numbers...compare them to the sha256sum .txt file...they should match.
Hope this helps.
