Perhaps not. I would have thought that a non verified .iso would still install......but give dodgy results after installation? I could be wrong, quite easily as I have never encountered a corrupt download of an .iso (fingers crossed)When 4 out of 5 are bad and won't install in VirtualBox says it all.
I see a lot of complaints about problems with Mint failing to boot....black screens etc etc...particularly over at Reddit.com in /linux newbies. The vast majority of those are rectified by disabling secure boot etc. The number of people arriving at reddit without a single clue is enormous. They all have win 10 pc's which are about to hit the wall. (the majority of them anyway)
It is just as well there is a core of helpers over there who are very experienced. Most of them beyond my capabilities.
I have not seen one instance where a bad .iso has been blamed for problems. Plenty of dud usb sticks, and some peoples "innovative " approach to etching the .iso onto the usb stick etc etc
All this is obviously not the case here
Is there a chance that something has changed in a wifi connection here? .....neighbours "borrowing " your connection, or similar?.....a wonky router etc that is interrupting the downloads ?
Are any of the pc's/laptops used, still running on legacy bios as opposed to EFI ?
Are you downloading the .iso's direct to where they will be used.....or are they being moved from a different drive, and then moved to a different pc/laptop...or similar ?
When you are downloading the sha256.sum.txt and the sha256sum.txt.gpg files,,,,are they rightclicked on, and 'saved as" ?
I have searched fairly extensively across the internet.....linuxmint(dot)com included and askubuntu and a whole host of others.... and I do find problems relating to .iso files and their verification. However the vast majority are solved fairly quickly largely due to some error on the part of the user, or their equipment.....not because the .iso is corrupt/dodgy etc etc
