Solved Virtual Machine Questions; Privacy, Isolation of Apps,

Solved issue
I keep running into problems trying to do this through the terminal. I uninstalled it to start over. I learned some things in another thread that makes me wonder if I made things more complicated when I tried to uninstall VB through the menu. (Rt. click uninstall) I didn't realize that I still had things left on my PC doing it that way. Maybe that is why I'm still having problems?

I've followed some directions I found on the internet but I still have those (files). I have to admit that now I'm getting frustrated and impatient trying to get this done. I couldn't remember exactly what I would lose if I restore everything using TimeShift. That didn't work either.

The last option that I know will work, right now which when I need to get this done is to re-install LM completely. That is what I'm going to do. When that's done, I'm going to follow directions left by @Brickwizard.

I really want to learn how to use the terminal. If I end up in another situation like this one the mess is contained in a VM. Whether I have a lot of time to dedicate to getting it straightened out or not I still have the host.

With Virtualbox installed and open...double click the Extension Pack and click...Install...done. View attachment 25204

Install Guest Additions from the dropdown menu in the VM...you also must add yourself to the vbox user group...after you have installed your VM but that's later.

I really want to be proficient at using that terminal, but I've done enough for now. I got really frustrated. Couldn't figure out how to undo everything to start over from scratch.

I just reinstalled LM out frustration and impatience. I'm using your directions this time. I'll learn more about the terminal in a virtual machine another time.

I have an error. I got this error when I was trying to install Virtual Box through the terminal.
Nothing I did yesterday got me past this point.

I"m not going any further without some help!

"VirtualBox is not currently allowed to access USB devices. You can change this by adding your user to the 'vboxusers' group. Please see the user manual for a more detailed explanation."

I'm no expert but I've learnt a few things in the last 10 years and I'm still learning as we all do in Linux...everyone knows something but no one knows everything.

I know your frustration...I've been there but I didn't give up...what's the alternative...windoze...hell no.

Installing Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.1 or Virtualbox is easy if you've been doing it for years...we all forget we were once beginners too. What makes it worse is some people think their still back in windoze and others don't follow simple instructions.

One person couldn't burn an ISO to a Flash Drive which is so easy a blind man could do it especially when given instructions but about 12 pages later still nothing...what do you do...hang in there...it does get better.

I'm stuck at the same place I got using the terminal. I look around the internet trying to figure how to fix this. I don't know what to do from here.

You didn't follow my instructions did you...very naughty.

Rember when I said...with Virtualbox installed and minimised open the Termnial on your Desktop and type this command...
sudo usermod -a -G vboxusers your user name
My user name is bob..so the command is....sudo usermod -a -G vboxusers bob

Hit Enter...give your password...hit Enter again...when done close Virtualbox and Re-Boot...note G is upper case.

But you must have Virtualbox open and minimised otherwise it won't work.

I've always hated man. I want examples, not a long list of switches and other gobbledegook.

I just ran across this 3 days ago. Tldr is a user-friendly replacement for man. I haven't yet installed it yet, but I have high hopes.


While the man pages contain examples, they're usually right at the bottom, or in usage format which isn't always easy to understand. Tldr elevates examples and includes just the right number: enough to cover the most important cases, but not so many as to be unwieldy.

To install a VM click...New. Installing a VM isn't easy if you have never done this before...so let me know when you want to try and I'll go through it.

I disliked so much to type man whatever into terminal because entire text is white & black like TV's from 80's so instead I used to read man pages online.
But that changed, here is what I did:

Bash: 
sudo apt install terminfo

Append the following code to the end of your ~/.bashrc
