Solved Option picked, continued in new thread__... isolate Zoom in LM 22.1 Cinnamon 'Xia'...

Solved issue
I'm not sure which files I need to download.
they fixed that bug over a year ago.

Issues here haven't let up. I'm on Zoom everyday for extended periods of time. Glitches, non-functional commands/tools, getting dropped, audio issues...

Sometimes we are inundated with trolls. I can't host or chair a meeting without access to the tools I need when they show up.

I'm not the most qualified person to help you with this, sorry. But there are plenty of younger and more knowledgeable experts here who can. :)

You do realize that many LM packages are not up to date? Possibly, that's the issue.
We used LM for years, and I'm speaking from experience.

Having said that, LM is absolutely the best choice for a Linux newbie, like I believe you are.

BUT, you can run a different Linux distro in a VM! One with up-to-date packages. That's why I installed Manjaro. But there are other distros. I can't think of any.

I'm not sure which Oracle Virtual Box installation files I need to download.

Linux Mint isn't listed specifically. I think this LM is built on Ubuntu. Should I use one of those???
There is also one title 'All distributions' built on EL7 and therefore not requiring recent system libraries'

Then there is this in the software manager

Does anyone know whether the Zoom packages in Synaptic Package Manager might be newer than in Software Manager, or via apt-get ?

apt install synaptic

I was going to ask some clarifying questions about your last post...

After realizing that in addition to being new to Linux, and even though I'm really enjoying all this learning, I'm very exhausted.

....

I just erased a bunch of stuff that makes absolutely non sense at all...
Yeah, I don't need to be messing around with technology any more today.

That's not Wine, I'm not familiar with this software and website, I was referring to wine.

I didn't make any comments about WINE?

I mentioned Bottles (and Flatpak - which also runs in a sandbox of its own) and you asked if I had a reference for this.

I replied with a reference regarding Bottles.

I'm not sure why you'd ask me for a reference to WINE. In fact, I'm quite baffled.

Yeah! Yeah! I noticed that!

Look back at #10

The OP was about wine, and wine is also referred to as bottle e.g. wine prefix IIRC,
I was not aware of a separate program called bottles. my mistake.

It's all good. Bottles uses WINE (or is it Wine? I can never remember so I capitalize it) but it is itself sandboxed.

Additionally, for even more protection, I suggest the Flatpak which is also sandboxed.

They asked for a solution to running Zoom, so I suggest Bottles. They're trivially easy to use while also being more secure. If you haven't played with Bottles, I'd highly recommend it. I use it to play some old Windows games (the Fallout franchise) and it's flawless while being intuitive (once you've figured out that you need to download an additional file to get things started).

If you're using a modern distro, you might not need anything new installed as Flatpak support seems to be more and more common these days. I like them more than I like AppImages because many of those don't update all at once with a single command. They should update with the rest of your system if it is configured properly, or at least should show up in your updates.

However, they are bulky. As they're sandboxed, the dependencies can add up pretty quickly.

At any rate, I was really confused as to why you were asking for a Wine reference.

Also, I just looked and they spell it 'Wine' and not 'WINE' so I'll adopt that spelling from here on out - or at least until I forget and spell it WINE again.

The flatpak version of Bottles is the only version supported by the devs AFAIK.
I'm super tired, I'm laughing at posts that probably aren't actually humorous, salivating over my Swiss Cake Rolls that should arrive in about an hour and everything is way over my head right now.

What the **** does that mean???

Yup. For the REALLY adventurous, they offer directions to build your own Flatpak version of Bottles on their Git.

I have never done that, though I do dimly recall there being an .appimage floating around in the past - when I first looked at the software. I could be mistaken but that's what I recall.
