Australia - The Land Down Under

Hmm...

Since when is a snake bite a disease?

I suppose it could be me who is confused. They do put quotes around it, I suppose.

I guess the approach is to demystify some of the complications that go with snake bites....or at least some of them. The complications are very much diseases. Kidney failure, heart failure, ....long list !

The Huntsman is a large Australian spider that's harmless to humans. If I see one on the wall...

I'll catch it and release it outside.

I am, as they say, rolling on the floor rofling my a$$ off! :)

I often check the news before I really start my day and this was the first thing that I read about today.

Looks like. it was caused by a botched update to "Crowdstrike", which is some kind of security software.

Makes me wonder how many U.S. customers will switch to Kaspersky A/V... Oh wait... never mind.

I haven't tried to access my bank yet, of course...

When I was young, my Mum likened me to a Willie Wagtail

"fierce and stubborn, and not at all likely to back down, despite being short in stature"

The wagtail is very "chatty"

The GAB is gargantuan. It covers 1.7 million sq km, representing over one fifth of the continent.

Brendan McCormack's father died in the tragedy. He saw him the day the MV Noongah left Newcastle bound for Townsville on August 23, 1969. ABC News: Romy Stephens
He last saw him the day the MV Noongah left Newcastle, bound for Townsville on August 23, 1969.

Now, 55 years later, Brendan finally has the closure he never thought would come.

“I knew I’d never see my father, we all knew that we’d never see our family members again and we accepted that … so it is great they’ve been able to find the ship.

“You know they are close by the ship, and their souls are close by the ship somewhere.”

This does not just apply to Australia. Light pollution is everywhere.

Having lived in the Australian bush, I have experienced the awesome sight of the Milky Way in all its unfettered glory.

Be sure to "turn the lights off" around half way down the page....

You wanna know ho to take a 'night pic' of the sky and beyond ?

His captors showed no interest in using Ken's medical skills. Some of them were profoundly sceptical about Western medicine anyway.

"Muslims don't get sick," one of them pronounced – which after decades of treating sick Muslims in Djibo, came as news to Ken Elliott.

Of course, they tried to convert him. But Ken was adamant: "The Lord has been good to me. There's no way I was going to dishonour Him by converting to Islam. Or even pretending to convert."

"Well, some might say that the Lord hadn't been doing you any favours for this period of your life," I put to him. "Didn't you ever feel that God had abandoned you?"

Quiet conviction: "Never. No. He was always there."
