This will be quite a long post, so I will structure it in the following "chapters"
1) Overview of what the problem is
2) OS, hardware data, system log when trying to connect, type of router
3) Things I have already attempted in order to fix the problem (that obviously did not work)

1) Overview

I have bought a new router after the previous one broke - a dual band 5Ghz+ 2.4Ghz router, set up both connections with different SSID's - the 2.4Ghz connection has the same SSID as the previous WiFi I had before I replaced the router. There aren't many differences between the configuration of the 5Ghz connection and the 2.4Ghz connection, so you can imagine my surprise when Network Manager can connect to the 5Ghz just fine without any issues or troubleshooting but absolutely refuses to connect to the 2.4Ghz connection - which is a huge problem, as I have a laptop and I want to be able to move throughout my house and still be connected - and the 5Ghz network simply does not go through walls. Network manager has absolutely no issues connecting to any other WiFi except the 2.4Ghz network I've mentioned. I'll give a list of the general configuration of both networks on point 2.
I had thought that maybe the issue was that Network Manager somehow twists up the old network I had with the same SSID and the new one - apparently that wasn't the issue as I tried any conceivable way of removing the data network manager had stored up until that point that I could find, which did not fix the issue - list of what I've done to remove the data on point 3.
I dual boot Windows 10 and Manjaro, and the 2.4Ghz network works just fine on Windows 10 which makes me believe that the issue isn't the network chip not being somehow compatible with the router or something among those lines. And also, if the chip wasn't compatible, why would I be able to connect to the 5Ghz network, which is from the same router, but not the 2.4 one? So hardware issues are ruled out for me at the moment.

Long story short - Network Manager simply refuses to connect to this particular network I'm talking about, while having no issues with all the other networks I've connected to.

2) OS, hardware, logs, router and configuration

Type of router + network configuration
Router:
D-link DIR-842

2.4Ghz network:

Security mode WPA/WPA2Personal
Mixed 802.11g/n
WiFi channel Auto
Channel width 20Hz

5Ghz network (for comparison):

Security mode WPA/WPA2Personal
Mixed 802.11 a/n/ac
Wifi Channel Auto
Channel width auto 20/40/80Mhz

Both DHCP.

3) What I've already attempted

a) Listed all the files from /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections and then deleted the file with the SSID name of the network that’s causing the issues.
b) Went further and deleted all of the files in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/
c) after reattempting to connect and seeing that it doesn't work, I used nmcli to delete the connection instead, still didn't work.
d) After that, tried to delete all the data from Network Manager and reinstalling it, in an attempt to restore it to factory settings in hope that it would help.
Ran these commands (after using killall on network manager):

sudo pacman -Rnsdd networkmanager sudo rm -rf /etc/NetworkManager/* sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/networkmanager-1.26.4-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
This should have been enough - I've completely removed network manager, removed the data it stored, reinstalled it from the package that pacman saved, restarted - it still did not fix the issue.
e) Used a Live USB Manjaro installer just to check if it would connect there - it still refused to connect. Which means that it's probably an issue from Network Manager itself.
f) Only other thing that I've found is cases when netctl would conflict with network manager and cause these issues - never had netctl installed, checked to see if it was there anyway - it is not.

I've probably given way more data and written way more than it was necessary - but I'm growing a little desperate from not being able to fix this issue at all and I'm throwing whatever in hopes that someone might actually know what is going on.

I'm coming into this a bit late, can we back up a little?

What is output of nmcli dev wifi list ?

Good point, it was just with the one network OP Is having trouble with (It's been a long week).

Sure, here is the output (I've only included my networks)

Code:
IN-USE BSSID SSID MODE CHAN RATE SIGNAL BARS SECURITY
        40:9B:CD:A5:0E:B4 007 Infra 11 130 Mbit/s 100 **** WPA1 WPA2
*       40:9B:CD:A5:0E:B7  007 1.1         Infra  36    270 Mbit/s  90      ****  WPA1 WPA2

I have problems with the 007 network, the 007 1.1 is the 5Ghz network that works just fine and that I'm using at the moment.

edit: changed the format

The first thing I notice is it is on channel 11. Everyone uses channel 11, so it's possible that channel
has saturation in your area. I see it 100% signal and supports both WPA1 and WPA2.
When you run the "nmcli dev wifi list" command, how many SSIDs are on channel 11?

Obvious question, do both networks have the same password? Is it at least 8 characters?
The passwords don't need to be the same, just wondering if it could be a typo?
Second obvious question, do you only have one wifi card? Or two, are you trying to connect
to same network twice? Are both networks identical? (same subnet, gateway, mask, etc...?)
The other thing that happens sometimes is connection conflict.

nmcli con show

Do you see the same connection with the same listed twice?
If so, you will need to delete one of them. (If one has 1.1 at the end, and the other doesn't that's OK)

Good point, there are plenty of networks that use that channel in my area. I've switched it to channel 8, which isn't used by any other detected network. (edit: forgot to mention, tried to connect, it didn't fix anything. I also had the network on channel 5, which it picked automatically, channel which isn't used by any other network in the area, and it still wouldn't work).

Both networks have the same password, just different SSID's. I have checked multiple times if I had made a typo, to the point that I was looking at the password in the router settings on one device and writing it down letter by letter in my laptop just to make sure I wasn't writing it wrong.

Second obvious question, do you only have one wifi card? Or two, are you trying to connect

Only one WiFi card (name is in the hardware configuration part of my original post if there will ever be a need for it).
As for the 2 networks, they're not exactly identical (different SSIDs different channels different frequency) but the router only gives me the option of setting up one subnet mask and one gateway, which I assume apply to both networks. Suffice to say I can use the same gateway on both connections to access the router settings on windows 10, so I am more than certain that the gateway is the same. Same router, same gateway, same subnet mask.
It would be pretty difficult to resolve a connection conflict given that the router has universal settings for the examples you've given. It does connect to the same router after all so I can see how there might be a likelihood of that happening.

No, there are no clones. There's only one entry for each connection.

Good point, sorry about that, I have a managed router that lets me have multiple subnets.

One more thing, I don't know what logging level nmcli is set to.
You might try nmcli gen log lev debug

And see if that shows more errors.
Are there any any errors when you try to do this from the cli?

nmcli dev wifi conn 007 password p@s$W0rd (obviously the password will be different)

Apologies for taking so long, it wasn't intentional to leave you hanging.

The debug output is quite long to say the least. I will have to attach a text file for the debug info instead because I'm quite over the 30k character limit if I just paste it here. And I don't really know what to include in the log and what to not include so I'll just paste everything from the moment I attempted connecting to the moment it disconnected and reconnected to the other network that works.

What stood out to me was the "No carrier" debug entries - I admit this is quite a bit beyond my knowledge (for example 13/12/2020 1:51 PM NetworkManager <debug> [1607860319.7443] connectivity: (wlo1,IPv6,190) check completed: NONE; no carrier ) but I really don't know what might be causing that issue in the first place.

edit: the debug text file is quite painful to read as it is. If I find a way to make it more readable I'll reply with a new text file.

Check to see if the Network Manager is using iwd or wpa_supplicant as it's wireless daemon
check octopi to see if iwd is installed or not
iwd (iNet wireless daemon) is a wireless daemon for Linux written by Intel
you may be using the wrong wireless daemon for 2.4Ghz

Well apparently iwd is not present at all (I don't have octopi, I checked through pamac GUI and then through pacman -Qe). I only have wpa supplicant. I'll attempt to install iwd and see if I can use it instead (but later as the Arch wiki is down for maintenance at the moment that I write this message, and I'd like to read through it before I try anything).

If instead, you wouldn't mind explaining to me how to switch it I'd appreciate it a lot. If not, I'll figure it out by myself sooner or later. Anyhow, I'll have a timeshift backup before the switch so in the worst case scenario I'll just revert what I've done.

I do not use Manjaro I use a Buntu based OS - Expirion which I developed, so I believe this is how it is done on Manjaro

sudo pacman -S iwd
sudo systemctl stop wpa_supplicant
sudo systemctl mask wpa_supplicant
sudo systemctl enable --now iwd.service
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl start iwd.service

or you can reconfigure your Network Manager

Network Manager(NM) configuration

To switch NM from the wpa_supplicant backend to the IWD backend the following lines need to be added in nm.conf. This file is normally located at /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/nm.conf but if you've built NM from source it may be in your /usr/local/etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/ instead.

[device]
wifi.backend=iwd
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Buntu it's

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install iwd

Regardless of the version, once you've installed it, it is a good idea to make sure the service is connected:

sudo systemctl enable iwd.service
sudo systemctl start iwd.service

Now you need to tell NetworkManager to use iwd for its backend. Open up /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf in your favorite editor and add wifi.backend=iwd to the [device] section, giving you something like:

[main]
plugins=ifupdown,keyfile

[ifupdown]
managed=false

[device]
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no
wifi.backend=iwd

Newer versions of Buntu have this installed already

The configuration file in Manjaro is located in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and was blank when I accessed it (it only had 2 comments)
"# Configuration file for NetworkManager.
# See "man 5 NetworkManager.conf" for details."

Anyway I just pasted this:
Code:
[device]
wifi.backend=iwd
After running the commands you've mentioned:
sudo pacman -S iwd
sudo systemctl stop wpa_supplicant
sudo systemctl mask wpa_supplicant
sudo systemctl enable --now iwd.service
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl start iwd.service

And enabled + started the service (last 2 commands you've mentioned).

One reboot later, it actually works. The issue is finally fixed. Thank you for the help.

One final, albeit dumb question - how do you mark the thread as solved, if you can even do that? I'm new to this forum and can't find a button for that. Maybe it doesn't exist, but I just want to make sure.

I have the same problem in majaro 20 no networkmanager. Followed these commands but after the last one, "Unit file iwd.service does not exist" What went wrong? Can you Help?
sudo pacman -S iwd
sudo systemctl stop wpa_supplicant
sudo systemctl mask wpa_supplicant
sudo systemctl enable --now iwd.service

Unfortunately I personally don't know how you might fix that issue. I would recommend making a new post so you can reach more people, maybe that way someone who knows more than I do could recommend a fix.
Or I could temporarily remove the "[SOLVED]" tag from the title, maybe that way more people will look at the post. If you want me to do that just tell me.
