If you can remember, tell us what website was the first website you ever visited; Mine is pretty embarrassing.

I was 12 years old and I had an unhealthy obsession with a popular boyband at the time. The band had a fanfiction site, and I would literally spend hours on that site reading horrible fanfiction like it was the newest Harry Potter novel. I was a pretty simple girl. Fanfiction and random clothing sites got most of my attention.

Some bulletin board I telneted into in 1990 and got into trouble over for compromising the company's intranet security. Upshot -- don't use telnet any more.

I honestly can't remember, the only thing I can think of is that I used Dogpile rather than just Google when I started using the internet, but beyond that I have no idea.

As far as I can remember, the first website that I have ever visited was google I suppose. In that time gogole wasn't really much famous. Yahoo was his competitor, and there was also that website that tried to be like them,I think it was called " alltheweb ".

I hadn't used the WWW for a while, but I was a big Usenet user! :) I only started getting excited about the whole WWW boom when there were almost more WWW links on Usenet then normal posts :)

I think the first website I have visited had to be a search engine. I'm guessing maybe Lycos or Yahoo. It was back in 1995 when I was in elementary school. I can't remember what I used it for but their were like only for computers in the library that we were allowed to search stuff with.

What a great topic for a thread!

I first used the web at university. The first site I actually sought out I think was BBC news. That is, apart from the university's own website.
