What can I expect: from Manjaro to Artix ?

I've been on Manjaro 25 XFCE Linux 6.14 for about a year and I like it and my system is stable.
However I've become curious about Artix and I might install it.
What should I expect in terms of differences, pros, and cons?

Should I even make the change? Should I stick with Manjaro?
If you have already switched to Artix from some distro, how did it go?

You can.

I have maybe a dozen Arch-based distros in my stable, running over 3 drives - two internal and one external - that comprise my rig. There are no conflicts, and they include both Manjaro and Artix.

Easier way to make comparisons, IMO.

Let me put up front that I have not used Artix. But I have read in some places that you can run into problems with packages(or PKGBUILDS) that have some sort of dependency with systemd. This is an example:

It got fixed because someone reported it, but if you look around for it more you will see there are more examples. What's your reason from wanting to go from systemD to systemV?

i've never actually had a problem with artix (although I use it less than my other distro so idk) and it's not just systemV vs systemd, there are a lot of other options, like for example I use runit. artix is pretty similar to arch and I was able to add the arch repos and install packages from there quite easily.

Manjaro might actually be more different from vanilla arch than artix because it's the "user friendly" one, and it makes a lot more changes to the OS in order to get to that state.

Artix also offers a lot more isos, so if the cli arch installation is too difficult, there are graphical artix installations with DEs set up for you, btw

From reading it's based on Arch Linux and Artix is systemd free.
Sound is handled by Alsa which most of the Debian distributions don't use anymore.
That doesn't mean the sound won't work just be mindful of it should any sound issue appear.

With Manjaro your updates/upgrades will take up at times more space on your HDD or M2.
The updates/upgrades for Artix may not be 1 gig for the day.

Pro's and Con's?
See what folks that are using it and have experience with it have to say.
'Going to the source' is a sure bet for finding the performance and the functionality over all with it.

You may want to look into how Runit and OpenRC works and become formiluar with it since systemd is not being used.

Running Devuan which is systemd free ran well for me so no issues there.

Perhaps consider downloading Artix and trying it as a Live USB to see if you like it?

i'm pretty sure that most of the debians (if not all) still use alsa by default, even though some distros like mint are moving away from pulse audio towards pipewire as the higher-level interface.

Its definetly better than PA, but PA only messes up under specific circumstances.
