Guess who's returned, guys? For those who'd love a distro that's predominantly "pink".....Hannah Montana Linux is back, FULLY up-to-date:-

More of a re-skinned & updated 'upgrade' on the 'jokey' original, apparently it's surprisingly usable (Debian Trixie 13.5 and KDE 6.3.6, along with the Calamares installer and the k6.12 kernel).

You pays your money, and takes your pick...

Lololol!!!!!

Mike. :p

I remember it although figured it was just a thing at the time apparently it wasn't.

I recall this odd Linux from a few years back although don't know anything about it or how up to date it is.

It just goes to show that a Linux distro can be made from any base or from scratch if the want and desire to do so exists.

@MikeWalsh
Not trying to crowd your thread.

@f33dm3bits :-

Oh, I'm not sharing because I happen to think it's any good, Maarten (I have no opinion on it one way or the other). It's just one of those Linux "oddities" that crop up over the years.....and which always seem to get mentioned simply due to the silliness factor.

Remember Justin Bieber Linux? Yeah, THAT was a "thing", too (around the same time-frame, as I recall)....!!

:p

rebecca black linux should have caused some interest. because that has been a wayland testing ground for a long time.

i had to ask myself once, "but who's rebecca black? why name a distribution after some famous female?"

@f33dm3bits :-

Yup, that sounds about right.

I'm not surprised you don't remember Justin Bieber Linux, or "Biebian" to give it its working title. This one was actually a re-mastered Puppy "special".....it's been an ongoing hobby amongst the community as far back as I can ever remember, because every Puppy ever released for public download has always contained a full suite of re-mastering tools, OOTB.

That's just one of Barry's legacies.

One of my contemporaries on the Puppy Linux forums put this one together around 15 years ago; it was "inspired" by Hannah Montana Linux, and was built on top of the well-loved Lupu - "Lucid Puppy", based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 'Lucid Lynx'. (This was so popular it was kept going WAYYY past its official EOL.....and then some. Richard Erwin - aka 'rerwin' on the forums - finally dropped it around early 2021).

The author - I forget who mastered this one, TBH, without digging back through the archives! - was quite candid about the whole thing being a huge joke. Their view was that if you took this one seriously, then you definitely needed a 'number two'.....because you HAD to be constipated!

You can find it and a few others mentioned here:-

....and the original thread on the old Murga-linux 'Puppy' Forum (now essentially a giant archive):-

There's always some daft buggers out there..... :D

Without having googled that, let me guess: The developer's name is "Rebecca Black"? I know I've probably just shown my utter lack of culture, but at least I'd heard of "Hannah Montana". :p

Quoted from here.

"I got the idea to name a Linux distribution after my favorite celebrity after I saw some earlier Linux distributions named after celebrities, and also this KDE blog post. http://ivan.fomentgroup.org/blog/2011/05/02/splash-screens-and-qml/
And then I thought, she deserves the free promo too.

This is amongst the first live distributions to provide a Wayland server. VTs are disabled in the kernel.

While 32 bit and 64 bit x86 ISOs used to be provided in each build, the latest builds are 64 bit only due to QtWebEngine refusing to build in 32 bit chroots.

(It does NOT have her copyrighted music, or photos on the ISO. You have to buy her music legally on iTunes (or Amazon, etc)))

The build scripts in the SVN is available for you to modify and build your own version of this project.

This distribution is 3RD PARTY fan made. Yes. I am a fan of Rebecca Black."

Rebecca Black.

I looked up Rebecca Black. I know nothing about Hannah other than that she exists and had a TV show a long time ago. I'd never heard of Rebecca Black until today.

I wonder what genetics are involved when I see people who appear to have longer-than-average necks. (In the three pictures I saw, that appeared to be the case.) It's not a slight or anything. It's just me being curious. Some folks have some pretty long necks.

Alas, my knowledge of pop culture is pretty bad. I'd make a horrible trivia partner if the questions were about pop culture.
