virtual interface on sles11sp3

I'm trying to create a virtual interface on sles11sp3 but it doesn't work.
the file contains:
DEVICE=eth4:30
HWADDR=00:02:C9:1C:5F:30
STARTMODE='on'
IPADDR=30.7.51.83
NETMASK=255.255.0.0
BOOTPROTO=static
ONBOOT=yes
VLAN=yes

and it saved at /etc/sysconfig/network/.

please help me.

Okay, you say it does not work. When and were are you getting an error? What type of error? Specifically, how is it not working? Do you by chance have log files or some error code for your issue?
