I'd like to maker sure I've removed all of Stacer.

Using the following article, https://linux.how2shout.com/remove-stacer-from-ubuntu-linux/, I ran this command to remove Stacer:
Command to completely remove Stacer from Ubuntu including its repository.

sudo apt-get autoremove --purge stacer*

The article went on to say:

If you also want to remove the PPA repository:
sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:oguzhaninan/stacer

But when I rant the second command, I got the following message in Terminal:

Cannot get info about PPA: ''This PPA does not support noble''.
failed to remove PPA: '[Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/oguzhaninan-stacer-noble.list''

Did Stacer get removed entirely? I don't know what "PPA" is. Do I need worry about it?

Click on Update Manager (down near the clock)

Then click on Edit....then on Software Sources

The it will have a list on left side....with PPA's....click on that to open it

If stacer is in there....single click it to highlight it....then click on Remove at the bottom.

I did the same thing with stacer some time ago, upon discovering it had not been updated etc for years.

In my case, I found atimeshift snapshot I had taken prior to installing stacer.

I simply restored to that snapshot and that was the end of that.

Timeshift....it will save your bacon.

So will an image backup via rescuezilla....but timeshift is more suited for smaller jobs like this.

The 'trick' with timeshift is haveing sufficient space on an external drive and spacing the snapshots (daily weekly etc etc) so that you get a good spread......and being alert to problems before they take over the whole show.

I also use an app named catfish .....it is in the software manager. It is a search facility.
I run it when I need to find anydamnthing on my pc. Pay attention to the result, where the item is etc ect....you can also click on that item in catfisj and it will open it whereever it is or you can right click and delete etc etc
It has its uses.....comes in handy

You likely installed Stacer from your distro's repository and not from their PPA. If you'd use the PPA, you'd remember that process. Stacer is already in most default repositories that I'm aware of. So, that's where you installed it from.

So, yes, it's gone. It was removed, along with the configuration files (ideally), when you used the autorremove and purge options in your command. If there are any files left, they are tiny, trivial, and will not cause you any harm -- nor will they be of any notice. They'd just be a small orphaned file or two in your home directory, if at all.

There will be no harm in ignoring them, and your time is likely best spent elsewhere. Also, the odds of there being any lingering files is pretty darned low. Purge and autoremove are both pretty good at what they do. There won't be anything left to worry about and you can move on to your next objectives.

Yes, it appears in the Linux Mint repository, with the mandatory Homepage link .......which takes you to the Github page....which appears as below.

The more than obvious question is, WHY does the Linux Mint repository continue to list obsolete/unsupported apps....which will inevitably lead to problems for users.

Note that the latest release was in May, 2019 .........................................................................^^^^^^^

I further note that some members are still using this app and some are still promoting it.

if they still use it, that's thier business.....promoting it has to stop.

I'm glad it's gone. But this provide me the opportunity to use Timeshift. I'm not in urgent need to restoring my computer to a previous snapshot, so I can take my time and focus on just learning about it.

Can someone point me to some good instructions on how to install Timeshift? I'd like to do it from the Terminal, if possible. I don't see a tutorial on this site. I tried ArchWiki but it just says to install it. And Bleeping Computer doesn't even mention it.

Linux Mint 22.3

Go to Software Manager.....type in Timeshift. click on install

Use Rsync as the snapshot type

The location will be the xternald drive

The schedule:. Up to you...experience often sets the requirement for you. I use 1 weekly, 2 daily and 1 Boot.

Users:...looks like the below

All of the above uses the most space, but it works for me.

If I may barge in off topic: the MX Linux option to make a snapshot that can serve as a bootable live iso - is that a MX Linux only feature? Don't other Linuxes have it?

I wonder, as I use it shamelessly to "synchronize" versions from my os between desktop computer and laptop - means if I try something out on the one system and don't like the outcome, I take the snapshot from the other one and do a reinstall with it. Or if I done a lot of changes on one, want the same thing on the other but I'm too lazy to do it all over again.

You wouldn't even need two computers - just keep the live usb at hand and if you've wrecked your system, just reinstall. If you have your home dir on its own partition, you wouldn't even have to reinstall that.

I dont know a great deal about MX Linux, but according to what I hear from a friend who uses it, the magic is real.

As far as I know it is a mx linux feature only. Fairly sure about that.
